questions about front calipers

Hi, everyone.

after searching, I've not found my answers so I have a few questions about front calipers. First the history.

I replaced front pads and added SS lines this weekend and ended up ruining the threads on the caliper for the banjo bolt... I haven't decided yet if I have to scrap the whole unit.

Here are my questions:

1) is helicoil the preferred method for resetting threads on the caliper? after looking at their website it didn't really look as though the replacement threads would hold up to the pressures of the breaking system.... anyone have any experience with this?

2) are there any known alternatives to helicoil?

3) is there a model year of front caliper that will not fit an '01? I will most certainly be getting a salvaged part if I decide to scrap mine.

If you end up scraping yours and can't find one, I have a caliper and brake line off my '96 for sale.

Get another caliper. I would never use a heli-coil on a caliper. It may be fine but too much at risk. You may not be able to seal it properly.
Common sense in not very common.

I agree with dgyver.A cheap fix could cost you your life.

I'd buy bucks caliper.

I am with DG, a helicoil wont hold brake fluid at pressure and thats assuming they are available with a fine pitch that suits the fitting......the caliper is scrap.

Thanks for the input fellas. bummer though. pretty pissed at myself right now because I really brought this on by not reading directions...  :nono:
