Well we have had a warm snap here in the great north woodsso i got to take my bike out for a nice long ride  unfortunaltly I am havin a couple of problems.  When the weather got cold I took out my carb in an attempt to clean it only to discover it didn't seem to need any cleaning no rust in float bowls no visible gunk anywere I did install an inline fuel filter which required adding about 6 inches of hose I also sprayed a little carb cleaner into the fuel intake (as per the instructions on the can) Now I my bike is ahing a little trouble going.  there is a delay when I hit the throttle I hit it nothing happens and then it goes this got better as the bike got warm.  I also noticed that the bike seems to be running a little rough by rough I mean more high pitched engine noises and almost a metal on metal sound when I go.  Any suggesdtins would be greatly appreciated.  and all that aside it was great to be able to ride in minnesota in november

You messed with the carburetors, which means you may need to synchronize the carbs.

OK knowing scratch... he was kidding... Am I right Scratch... cos unless you tweaked the synch screw between the carbs, it doesn't need adjustment.
Cool.

Well, what else did he mess with that would cause these symtoms, other than completely stock carbs? Oil level get low? That may cause the metal to metal contact and sounds. But the idle is rough, indicating either carbs out of sync (most likely), not enough oil getting to the cams and the cams are grinding away(hopefully not), the pistons scraping away at the cylinders (again, hopefully not).

As far as sychronizing the carbs, there is a screw on top of where the throttle cable connects that controls how evenly the butterfly valves open in each carb. If you do not have a way to measure the difference in vacuum between the carbs, you can do a static balance, by taking the carbs off again and visually balancing the butterflies, by looking at the butterflies and turning the screw, one way or the other, and making the gap at the bottom even between the two, but by no means replaces the actual balance of vacuum between the two.

Did that make sense? My brain just shut off for the weekend (always happens at 5 on Friday). Can you help him, please? I'm off for the weekend and the computer at home is horked, sorry.

Listen to Srinath, he knows more than me.

I did tighten the throttle cable a little to try and get the play out of my throttle (it would move almost a quarter turn back and forth) could that of thrown my carbs off?

Metal on metal sounds wouldn't seem to me to be carburetor related.  Is your oil at the proper level? Any shifting problems?  How many miles do you have on your GS?

When you cleaned your carbs, did you seperate the two carbs are just spray carb cleaner through the passages with the whole thing assembled?

I did not take the whole thing apart once I got it out of the bike it looked really clean so I put it back on and then sprayed some carb cleaner in the fuel intake.  Shifting is OK but I do sometimes have trouble getting it into 1st but if I back up or move forward a little it falls into place.  I felt a loss of power when I accelerated there was a delay from when I turn the throttle and when I actually go and then once it starts to go it is slow for a second and then it takes off.  The metal on metal was a problem before I messed with it but it is much more pronuounced now.  and unfortuatly any work I do will probably go untested as we have a blizard coming in tonight :x
