How do you figure your gas mileage on a motorcycle? :icon_confused:

Whats the best way to conserve gas on the gs?

Fill gas tank.  Reset tripmeter.

Ride motorcycle.

Fill gas tank to the same point as the first time.  Then divide miles on tripmeter by gallons added, and you have MPG.

To conserve gas, use moderate throttle and shift somewhere in the 5000 rpm area.  It's going to depend more on throttle opening than revs, though.

yup what he said, or completely empty tank, and do the same thing. however the bike will stop running long before the tank comepletely empties. ( gravity fed)

And that's the tricky bit. On the GS the tank is fat at the top so you get more fuel in. But if you work this method over 4-5 fill-ups and average the MPG then you'll get a much more accurate figure.

not really tricky. just fill up at the same pump, and fill it just to the neck of the inlet.

Then I take my hat off to you. By the time you're at the filler neck, each extra 1mm is more than a pint of fuel. Or 6-8 miles. But no-one ever taught me how to pump gas properly... 8)
