So i left the key in the ignition in the on position for 5 hours today...I guess it's not necessary to tell you it wont start.

So is jumping a motorcycle battery the same process as a car?...

I have heard it's not a great idea to jump a bike from a car. Something about the possibility of frying the electronics.
Might be a good idea to get a Battery Tender and let it charge overnight. They are well worth the investment.

I've jump started every bike I've ever owned including the 2 GS500s at least once and usually several times every winter.  No problem, just don't run the car or truck your jumping from while jumping, shut it off.  Otherwise it's same as jumping a car.

Push start it and go for a ride. That should sort it.

okay i just bought a battery tender jr.; I figured it would pay itself off over time... Any idea how long it takes to charge a dead battery.. (on average) I dont have a volt reading as of now

I have had to bring my GS battery back from the dead a couple times this year, has taken anywhere from 2 - 12 hrs, depends how dead it is.

Had jumped it at one point as well, hadn't heard about not leaving the vehicle running while doing so    luckily no damage seems to have been done, although I'm thinking this is the last season on this battery.

Agreed 

I have lost count of the number of bikes and the amount of times  I have jump started them from other vehicles without issue.
