If you just want louder/deeper,the inexpensive route is to take drill to the stock exhaust - or take it off intact and ship it to me, and I'll ship you mine, pre-modded - whole rear baffle cut out by "clever" prior owner. I prefer the stealthy lawnmower effect, but to each his or her own. Mine's a 1990, don't know if there's any difference in the exhaust. I strapped a soup can (literally - Campbell's is the perfect size, if you take off the rim) onto the end of mine, and the bike runs a lot better, and does not invite cop hassles over loud exhaust.

I assume nobody in this thread wants to see the soup-can mod (and I haven't taken a picture of it yet anyway).

Andy Warhol, eat your heart out.

My exhaust as modified by previous owner is shown in my post above in the thread. Loud, cold-blooded.

Quick, cheap, infinitely adjustable (get another soup can and try again). I started with just the group of holes in the middle (punched with a 16d nail), and later added the outer 3. Perhaps at some fancy future point in time I'll bother to try and track down something like a fishtail pipe end that would fit (while providing the restriction that makes the bike so much more rideable and quieter), but the whole point of this bike is to be on the road and working, not to be another project (at least until winter, and then it needs to be a well defined project that's utterly ridable by early spring.) The soup-can has got about 150 miles on it. Another option if I take the time would be to braze in a perforated, closed-end tube, in a more traditional muffler fashion. But this works very nicely for one soup can, one hose clamp, a nail to make holes and 5 minutes assembling (most of which was getting the rim off the can, as the rim is just big enough that it won't fit on the muffler end with the rim on it).

The whole exhaust (at least the non-shiny bits) needs repainted, and I figure I'll get it (or the next can) then. Probably high-temp red.
