Ever noticed how on some spec sheets the earlier GS500's are listed at 52hp and the later ones, like post 96 or so, are listed at 47hp?  Why is that?
Attack but have a back up plan

Oh yea, the earlier ones were the best 89-95 made in japan, then in 96 they made them in mexico, and after 04 they are made out of mud and sticks  :thumb:
Oh yea, all of them are monday morning assembly jobs, they come with lots of loose parts, with missing bolts, and some even have missing engines and wheels ... Needless to say they never put any real suspension parts in it by design, so you're usually good there ...  :thumb:.
As soon as you buy it, you gotta replace 1/2 the bike, the next month, replace the other 1/2.
Then go for a ride.
Cool.

I've never seen a stock GS rated over 40hp.If you're finding this on line post the links.A stock GS don't make that much power even with upgrades.
PICS are GONE never TO return.

96 made in Mexico?  Not according to the sticker on my 96, made 11/95.  Made in Japan.   :thumb:
Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?

I thought the latest Es and all the Fs were made in Spain.

What's up with this "reduced effect" version(27hp), here it's listed for 1991:

How do you tell them apart?

Could be a restricted "Learner special" with a reduced power output to cater for certain European markets and their laws.

When did they change the stock jet sizes?  Wasn't it beginning in '97?

My crappy 'n shiny '08 was made in Spain, where the rain falls mainly upon the plane.

I believe its MOM noted something in the neighborhood of 40+ horses, but I bet the torque curve looks a loy like Pike's Peak at about 6,000 to 7,000 revs

My bike don't make no 47 to 52hp with rejet,K&N lunchbox,and D&D exhaust.My engine is in top condition.  :icon_rolleyes: 39-40hp I could see but 47+. :dunno_white:

you realize that 47HP is calculated as engine on a rack, measuring the output on the shaft with no load on it..
so on a wheel dynowith a rider, I would expect anywhere between  38-45HP is probably your "on the ground HP"
there is a huge amount of losses in power once assembled, vibrations of engine in bike assembly, transmission, clutches, chain, gears etc all are a part in losses in power before it actually hits the pavement.

cheers

Yea I know about drive line losses, but even on an engine dyno I don't think my bike is making 40 hp at the crank.I've built enough engines to know my engine is weak.
