ride to charleston?

i just bought a 2005 gs500f a little over a month ago.  some of my friends from college who live in columbia are going camping in charleston this weekend.  i was just invited today.  i would really like to join them, and take the gs.  however, i live on the far side of clemson from charleston (the furthest you can get from there).  usually a 4-4.5 hour drive on the interstate by car.  the furthest ive taken my bike since ive gotten it is a little over an hour through the mountains.  i believe i am pretty comfortable riding, (ive already put about 1500 miles on it since ive gotten it, riding back and forth to work everyday).  i plan on lubing the chain and changing the oil tomorrow afternoon.  i plan on borrowing a gps as well, to avoid highways.  the only gear i would need to take are my clothes for the weekend.  i would like to leave friday morning.

the questions are:

are there any usual preventable problems that i should be aware of?

would this trip be advisable on such short notice?

i appreciate any help.

i realize that i could prolly search for the normal problems, but i am still stuck with dialup (phone company says dsl is not available in my area) and i cant really spend an hour searching for it.  but a link to other threads would still be appreciated.

thanks,

John0

cool, thanks.  however, ill prolly push the ride off for a few weeks and stay at a friends house while im down there.  that way my friend and his cbr can keep me company on the way down and back.

maybe we can catch up while down there and compare gs's
