Hello everyone,

I am new to the forum, just bought an 05 with only 100 miles on it.  I already have the mod bug and purchased a K&N drop in.  I was wondering how I would change the filter without removing the gas tank.  It looks like the only way to do it.  Let me know if there is another way to change it without having to remove the tank.  This forum is very helpful, a lot of good information so far.  Look forward to being able to contribute.   :thumb:

The tank is really easy to lift up, its only two bolts that need to be removed. Prop the tank up or get someone to hold it up for you, then you can remove. Also you can get a K&N Lunchbox which replaces that monster stock airbox, it makes these bikes sound mean also it improves air flow. I think i paid 30 bucks, you might want to look into that option. Thanks for the quick reply.  Don't really want to have to re jet unless I pipe it.  Maybe at a later date, already spent enough on the bike.  That will have to be for next season.

Hi mayhem,
Welcome!
My advice, after 33 years of riding and 15 years of GS500 ownership -- just ride the thing, learn how to ride it, enjoy it and worry about mods later. :)
The only reason I replaced my stock air filter is that my foam Unifilter is washable and makes maintenance easy.
I'm not a fan of LOUD motorcycles. I think motorcyclists should keep the noise down so we don't annoy the rest of the world and get ourselves banned in places.
I run the stock exhaust, a Unifilter foam filter, and several other things, but really, just ride it and get to learn all about it before you dump money and time into it.
Best wishes,
Todd

100 miles???? Is this correct?.......if so it needs running in before you even think about trying to squeeze a bit more out if it.

Been riding since I was a kid.  Haven't owned a street bike since college (CBR 600 F2).  Was going to go for a GSXR600 but got a great deal on this bike with such low mileage.  I'm just babying her tilll I get over 1000 miles, currently have about 280 since I got it last week.  So far I really enjoy the bike and this forum  :)

well in my opinion you made the better choice.  im like most other people on here and i run a k&n lunchbox setup that eliminates the air box and improves air flow.  i really like it
congrats man
