if you think about it, the tire isnt rubbing in a liner motion when leaned over, its sliding alittle, drifting if you wil, this drift kinds peals the leading edge back, while wearing down the trailing edge.
Accelerate like your being chased, Corner like you mean it, Brake as if you life depends on it.
Ride Hard...or go home.

Its you Vs the pavement.....who wins today?

I think that someone's bike needs a bath  :nono:

I've tried to explain a feather like that before, and I keep coming to "the compound at the cut is softer than the rubber farther into the "meat" of the tread, so when the tire rolls it.....blah blah blah" conclusion.
No time to wash the bike

Don't know why it does it but both the Michelin Mac90s I've had on the rear have done it.  Doesn't seem to affect the performance any so I just ignore it.

I'd rather ride than clean.
I'd rather do anything than clean actually.

Thanks all. Just wanted to be sure it wasn't something I should worry about.

It gets the dew wash (dew that settles on the bike gets wiped off but when dries the dust is still there).

"chicken strips"
Looks like youre just not getting all the way to the edge of the tire.

Cupping.  Leading edge(?)...trailing edge(?)...they reverse under braking.  I can't see because images are too dark on my PC and can't find any controls beyond the moniter which is adjusted to full brightness.  Help.

you are not aware of what happens with a 150 on a stock rim are you? It pinches the tire making the edges unavailable. You're draggin metal parts or on your ass before you get to edge of a 150 tire (on stock rim).

That's why I posted a warning in another thread. So many people, like me wanted the bigger tire, biggest you can get on the rim without rubbing chain or brake stay arm. A 150 will do it but at a cost. That's why I've got a 88-89 gsxr rim to swap in.

no cupping visible. leading edge feathered. I've been told on another forum it might be caused by excessive compresion dampening, not enough rebound, incorrect spring rate, low tire pressure or all the above.

I'm guessing its the tire pressure as I'm not all that good about checking it but could easily be my shock is totally knackered-doesn't feel it though.

also told this:

<<It means that the leading edge of the thread is the trailing edge when it is in contact with the pavement. The feathering is the rubber smearing as the tire heats up and slips a bit. It does it more on the edges because the bike tire slips more when you are banked over and the slip is a bit diagonal to you path.>>

i think everyone is thinking to hard about this, i beleive if you took a piece of rubber with an edge and then rubbed the edge with a file, the edge will of course get rubbed down but there will be a thin piece of rubber that just bends over and doesnt get ground off.
there is no place like home, when your on the opposite coast!!

It looks like you are down to the wear bars, too.  Might want to keep an eye on that. :thumb:

My bike got a nice oil change and bath over the weekend  :nana: so I could take some pics of it in the city. Hopefully, my web site will be updated before years end  :bs: We shall see. That is the new concert hall in my sig.
