my gs with stock sprockets would do 110....downhill....huh. anyways  fully geared with jeans on is how i got some very nice roadrash on the side of my calf about two weeks ago going down at about 75...i need those icon riding jeans.....
01 gs500 stunt bike---SV integrated tail light, renthal bars, 13 up sprocket, engine cage, no plastics except for fender, dented in tank w/grip tape, 12 o'clock bar, enduro headlight, lots of spray paint, too many zip ties and maybe some tape here and there.

130mph???  Behave yourself.

You are forgetting the speedo over reads by about 10%.......130mph - 10% (13) = 117mph which is slightly more believable.

Always full gear, its not like i'm riding 100+ everywhere, but anyone who tells you they're not curious on top speed on their bike is lying. Maybe the speedo is off due to sprocket change, its reading right before the 130 mark and i'm flying by my friends 250 ninja(no mods just yoshi full) and he's at 110. I'm not trying to prove anything, someone asked me to elaborate on my top speed.  :thumb: Chef

Curiousity does make us do BAD things.

I had a 1996 GSXR SRAD 750, and one night on my way home from a Bike Night in the City I hit a section of Highway that was super straight for like 10 miles, minimal sweeping curves.  Before even getting through with the On Ramp section I had made my mind up that on this night, at 2am, on this section of road, I was going to try and bury the speedo. I tucked in behind the double bubble, rowed thorugh the gears touching the rev limit just barley in each gear, around 150MPH things got really really quite, seems like time stood still and I thought to myself what if a deer ran out in front of me? I laughed and said I wouldn't feel a thing.

I manged to top out the GIxxer that night, speedo read 170MPH, doubt it was accurate anyway my normal 30 minute ride on the highway was like done in 5 minutes, and thats the last time I have been above 150...I rock a XBR9 from time to time and while Ive gone over a Buck on that, Im just not all that curious anymore...To me the rush comes from the 0-100 blast.

hello mr. 2 posts. I hope we'll see more of your group rides summarized (with pictures ;)  ) and hope you can continue to enjoy fun rides in the future.

after a few of those squidly adventures the 'new' hopefully will wear off, and you can find the real fun of the gs: it's cheap, fast, light as a feather, and very forgiving.

as far as the unsafe riding suggested (lane splitting semis, shoulders, whoolies) please refrain. after you see a few guys wadded up it's just sickening to think the next time can/will be you.

we want you riding, wrenchin, and swappin parts with us, not writing from a hospital bed :)

keep it sane, let them go if they want, and keep us posted :)

welcome to the forum also ;)

130, or anywhere in the vicinity? turns at 115 mph? I have to call bull&$%# on this one, helmet cam, remanufactured cams, etc,  or not... if you are riding in the manner you say, and I doubt it, you need to consider the fact that one of the cagers you are intimidating may have the ear of their local congressman who just happens to be looking for a cause, making it harder for all of us... it may not matter to you now, seeing how you are completely invulnerable, but as insurance and fatality rates continue to rise, someone's going to have to pay the piper. We've seen it happen with ATVs and Mtn bikes, and now it's very difficult to find places to ride. People fear what they don't understand, and they probably don't understand passing on the shoulder, wheelies and endos, running from the law, etc. We need all the riders we can get to challenge the threat to our freedom, and this includes you. thus endeth the sermon...

Hmmm, I'd be curious to find out how changing the sprocket would effect the revolutions of the front wheel in relation to a given speed.  The possibility exists for an extensively modified GS to hit 130 actual, but I would imagine hp would need to be near 60 or so and torque around the 45 mark.  That's a lot of work.  If you don't know what benefits 'fabricating' cams would have, you most certainly did not do it right.  An engine is an amazingly simple and fluid thing at only a couple of revolutions per minute, at several thousand, the slightest variance can significantly alter it's overall performance.

:bs:

Speaking as the intact owner of one of the squidliest bikes made in 1982, you are dead wrong. Of course, a lot of the folks that feel the way you do are just dead, period. And if I ever did get curious about it, I'd satisfy that curiosity at a track, drag strip, or by taking a jaunt out to Bonneville if I was real serious about it. The road is a frigging stupid place for that sort of curiosity.

I have all the fun I need going from 0-whatever the speed limit is as fast as possible. Cars can't touch it.

wow...........i have never met a bigger groups of motorcycle pansies in my life    I will say this again - I DO NOT RIDE 100+ everywhere, i'm not a squid, i have been ridin for 18 years- dirt bikes,ATV, and motorcycles, i'm safe. But yes i have ridin turns at 115 or over 120 mph on my gs.  You guys are telling me about congressmen getting pissed off???? I don't what hillbilly town you live in, but I live in MIAMI, people get shot for crack rock on a daily, do you think people give a s*&t about bikes doing 115 down the 826 at 1:00 in the morning??? Cagers drive that fast at 9:00 in the morning. Stop trying to tell me how to ride my bike you f*#%k, I don't know when you lost you balls or how old you really are, but ridin fast on a 5 line highway with 20 other experienced riders at 1:00 in the morning is "intimidating" or "invulnerable", sell your motorcycles, hey they're dangerous, you can get in trouble just as fast in another setting, i'm  not going to ride like a kitty cat all the time because i'm "being respectful to other people's opinon's". This bike is fun as hell and taking turns at 100 is fun too. I've gone down before with full gear, yeah it hurts, but i got back up and rode again. I'm not raising you insurance rates, you are, by buying a bike as an inexperienced rider and crashing it. I'm not trying to prove how fast my gs can get or "crazy" i could ride, i put my 2 cents on a subject that someone else posted on. Jesus ,I don't need a life lesson by some fellow gs'er I've never met. I'm not running from the law or shoulder passing or wheelies between semi's. Keep you f*#&king opinons to yourself. Chef

jeez, man calm down.  I think all he's saying is that kind of riding is extremely dangerous and you're asking for trouble doing it.  I admit I've done stupid stuff on my bike that looking back I wouldn't do again, but when you put other people in danger (ie - drivers and passengers in cars) because of "unsafe" (relative term I know) riding it looks poorly on everyone that rides a bike.

If someone wants to do something and put themselves at risk, then by all means knock yourself out, but when other people (ie cars and their passengers) are in harm's way because of stuff a rider is doing it's unacceptable.

I don't think dogjaw was singling Chef, so relax...besides I don't think he's worried about you hurting yourself rather some careless cager making you go down or putting others in a bad position when you are much more vulnerable on a bike.  Either way, going that fast on a public road is irresponsible at best and deadly at worst.  Those kind of speeds are only acceptable at some private facility.

  No shortage of sand in the vag in Florida?  M'self, I don't care if your GS500 goes 110 or 120.  If you're trying to figure out the top speed of your GS, you'd do better taking it to a drag strip or using a GPS, though.  Stock speedos are useless for anything but a wide ballpark.

Going over 100 in a straight line just doesn't make me think 'what studs.'  I read the OP's post - this was a ride on the freeway to a couple of Hooters'?  On the street, I like rides on nasty back roads where nobody goes, with tight turns where you have to brake hard going in and gas hard going out.  Both more fun, because you're pushing the bike's abilities, and safer, as the speeds are lower.  But that's just me, and I'm an old, bitter woman.  ;)

Chef GS500f 06

I have no problem with people's opinon's, I understand the nature of a forum. I am upset because someone is tryin to tell me how to ride my bike, leave that pesonal s*%t out. If you don't like the way i ride then great, leave it to yourself. l This is driving me crazy because i'm not the one who started this, i never was trying to prove to you guys how fast i can go or how other people ride with me. In the group i am the most tentative because i am probably the most mature and experienced. Everybody is jumping on me because i wrote how fast we go and oh i must be immature and a squid... wish i wouldn't have said anything at all now. I'm not trying to prove that i'm a stud man go back and read this whole stupid subject word for word. The person who posted this gets welcomes and how he posted a go subject(which i agree), but seriously go back and read, everybody starts talking s*%t to me. :flipoff:  :dunno_white:

Just IMO, don't take it so personally and start cussing people out when they comment on your posts.  It's just a message board, and it's not worth extra blood pressure.   :icon_razz:

we have lost 4 riders in the last week in this "hillbilly" town; that may be acceptable in MIAMI , what with people getting shot for crack rock, yada, yada yada...  I  don't want to see anyone else, you included, added to this list.  I'm sure that you are an outstanding rider, but when other newer riders see experienced riders riding like this, they're going to be more apt to emulate it; I know I did, got the scars to prove it. And as to when I lost my balls; still got 'em, thanks you very much;  I don't do my thinking with them...
