OK thanks for the info on the chain lube.  Now i got this problem with the brake resevoir lens on the handlebars.  I touched it!!! and it crumbled, like it was dry rotted plastic.  anyways my front brakes still work and today i rigged up a very temporary solution( electrical tape, o ring, and remaining lens that has some kind of  cotter pin around it.  can i purchase just another replacement lens or do i need to buy a whole new resevoir rig for the bars?
See to me it makes sense that i should be able to find a replacement because of the O-ring and cotter pin and remaining piece of lens. Anyways if anyone could help i would appreciatte it.

From my experience, you will probably want to purchase a new front master cylinder.  I do not think the lens is replaceable.  The day I took my GS home, I stopped at a friend's house and he thought the lens looked cloudy, so he started rubbing on it.  Next thing I heard was "Grab a towel...quick!"  (Brake fluid likes to eat paint, etc.).  The lens had crumbled.

I put a master cylinder for another suzuki model on the bike (one made for dual calipers) and the brakes were ungodly hard and sensitive.

Anyways, everyone I spoke with said you could not replace the lens.

Counting down until someone who has done it posts and walks you through the process so I can cry for having to spend $120 or whatever it was on a new front master cylinder...

I need a new lens also because mine is totally frosted over and I can't see through it. I looked on Bike Bandit and saw that you could not get a new one without getting a whole new reservoir, at which point I decided to live with it.... I was unable to find a lens alone...

I'll sell ya the master cyl ... how's $20 and shipping. I have some very good sight glasses in them.
Cool.

yeah buddah i would love to get it from you..... i upgraded my temp fix though.. cut a piece of clear plastic to fit the circle where the lens would normaly be and cleaned it good with alcohol and also cleaned the remaining ring that the lens was attatched to i pushed the remaining ring through from the inside fit an O-ring on it from outside then used two part clear apoxy and apoxyed the new lens i cut onto the remaining ring that shows from the outside.  so far so good.  I used quick apoxy that hardens in like 4 mins so hopefully none will drip into the Master and ruin my whole idea. i dont know how well it will seal up the hole im not gonna put more brake fluid in it untill the morning so its good and hard.

Oh whats the difference between DOT 4 brake fluid and DOT 3 brake fluid?  will DOT 3 hurt my bike?

Just so you know, The lens can not be purchased alone. Mine did the same thing.
You have to buy the whole thing.

$150.00 from the local stealer. My solution was to use a proper size flangbolt to plug the hole with the o-ring still in place.

The guy at the stealer said it wouldn't work because I wouldn't be able to check my fluid level.

I asked him if he knew what those two little screws were for on top of the lid.  :icon_mrgreen:

Needless to say, he wasn't to happy with me.

Be safe.

Soul - Dot 4, Dot 3 is all the same, and I run 5 in it.

Puddle - The idea is to keep moisture out while still being seeable. That goal you didn't accomplish, but you did keep it pretty much from spewing the fluid out.
Cool.

3 and 4 eat paint and take in water. 5 does not do either. 5 is silicone based. 5.1 does both, but its synthetic version of 4.

buddha, You are right about it not being as moisture proof. Everytime I check the fluid I will let moisture in.

I just wanted to buy some time till I found one for less than 150.00 dollars.

If no one has spoken for it yet, I would be interested in the one you have. :thumb:

Do you have any idea how much shipping is to 74902?

Thanks.

Due to the katana conversions, the GS brake stuff is piling up, however the master cyl is useable on the kat, so I managed to use up a couple, GS calipers are totally useless, definetly gathering dust.
Anyway, shipping must definetly be under $8.

Right, and I will also bet that it will end up over 25 without shipping. This is one of those items where demand definetly out runs supply, like the dash cover or the high beam bulb cover.
The onlt reason I am selling the ones I have, I did a bunch of katana swaps. Temporarily I have a few left over. Its not like the stock jets where there is a 1000 people throwing them away, and no one wanting them.

Thanks for the heads up Wildbill.

However, I would rather give my business to members here.

Buddha, on the front brake reservoir, does $30.00 shipped sound good?

If so, let me know your paypal info.

BTW Mines an '04 model. I think they should all fit though.

Thanks, PJ

If you like I can do you a good favor. I'll send you the full thing, caliper and line etc, and you actually dont need to bleed it etc. Now I dont quite need the caliper back, so I guess donate it or sell it to a good cause.
The reason I didn't offer this to begin with was ... I was, and still am racking my brain to see if I opened up the thing on the best M/C I had, in which case you have to bleed it.
So It will prolly be $8 or so in the USPS flat rate box, so $28 is plenty. I'll round up the best M/C and have it out to you ~25th - sorry I dont get home till 25th.
Cool.
