I know it's probably been covered, but I couldn't find the exact info I want. I'm looking for a big tall windshield for the GS. Not worrying about the looks of it, just the functionality of it. Something that will really block the wind at high speeds. Any suggestions?

Do you have a fairing now?

The biggest most protecting one is a plexistar II or III I forget where to get it do a search.

The National Cycle (manufacturer) part number is N8372.  The list price on http://www.nationalcycle.com is $139.95.

Motorcycle Accessory Warehouse has them for $97.95  (Part #00445)  Make sure you know what he S&H charge is - it's not always easy to find out on this site.

motorcyclewindshield.com has them for $109.99 + $39.99 S/H.  They mention that this is an oversized part, and that their order form won't calculate the correct S&H, which is $39.99.  (Ouch!)

Cycle Stuff USA has them for $139.99 with FREE S&H.  (Part #665-0178)

I'm sure there are other places, too.  Just try a couple of web searches for Plexistar.  And good luck!

EDIT: Tha price at MAW is now $99.95.  I can't find the Plexistar II on the Cycle Stuff USA site anymore....

I've been comparing the Plex II and the Slipstreamer a bit.

The PlexII is 20.5" high x 30.5" wide, while the Slipstreamer Turbo is 19.75"x32" (1/4" shorter, but a little wider).  The shape of the Plex II is a wide rounded main screen, with round and wide coverage of the handlegrips, and the bottom edge descends a bit to about 2/3 down the hight of the headlamp.

The Turbo is almost as high, but the main windscreen is narrower, and the extensions out to the handgrips are much narrower: longer, but narrower. Its bottom edge only descends about 1/4 down the height of the headlamp.

It looks like the PlexII is $100 or so plus shipping:
PlexII $110+$40 @motorcyclewindshield.com
PlexII $145 @cyclestuffusa.com
PlexII $100 + $??? @mawonline.com
PlexII $140 + $? @nationalcycle.com
PlexII $145 + $? @powersportsnetwork.com

The Slipstreamer Turbo seems a tad cheaper:
Turbo $75 + $19 @motorcyclewindshield.com
Turbo $88 + $? @cyclestuffusa.com
Turbo $100 + $? @slipstreamer.com
Turbo $92 + $? @powersportsnetwork.com
Turbo $94 + $? @cyclewareables.com
Turbo $100 @motorcycleonlinestore.com

...not an exhaustive list, but the Turbo is looking to be a bit cheaper.  Strangely, the shipping price is also a bit less for the Turbo on the two sites which show the shipping charges (hmmm.)  It looks to me like the total cost on the Turbo is about 25% less than the Plex II.

Coupl'a questions:

I'm guessing that the Turbo will reduce gas mileage a liitle less, since the windshield is narrower?  It seems that the GS doesn't have any power to waste!

I notice that the coverage of the "original" slipstreamer (and all the Plexistar windshields) descends from the handlebars, down to the sides of the headlamp.  Is that to protect the legs and knees?  I have not noticed a problem with my knees freezing, but apparently lots of people find that coverage necessary?

Do both windshields have adjustable rake angle?
