I am the proud owner of a 96 GS who taking delivery of a 2004 R6 tail/seats/light/subframe early next week.  They will be installed later in the week, and then it's off to the paint shop.  I have a paint scheme in mind, but was looking for some feedback.  I was thinking of painting the tank and tail in the same color as my frame, the stock dark silver/gray with 2 black racing stripes down the middle, in the same fashion as the Ducatis with the paint scheme of more of a 67 Shelby GT500.  I also want to go ahead and paint the wheels either that silver or black.  Thoughts?  Suggestions?  Other ideas?  All ideas and insults welcome.  Thanks guys

Somewhere down the line a PO has painted my bike a dark silver metallic like you are suggesting.

Here are some pics.  I would say that it is pretty close to "Elanor"'s color.  Just no stripes.

Post pics when you get it done!
I love it when a plan comes together.

Mod: Fenderectomy, Reflectorotomy, Targa turn signals, Blue gauge LED's, black footpegs front/rear, K&N lunchbox, Yoshimura slip-on, Buddha jetting (150/40/3/1), Pirelli Sport Demons (140rr 110fr), Kat shock, 15t frt sprocket & modded taillight lens.

Believe it or not, I had the same paint scheme in mind should I come across the money to invest in it.  My thoughts were that it would look great with a dual headlight set up!  Not sure what I'd do with the wheels.  Mine are currently a stock charcoal--not sure if they'd look better matching the main color or the black, though I'm guessing black would look better and require slightly less cleaning to maintain the look. :dunno_white:

That's what I was thinking...about both the wheels and headlights.  The bike's a complete rebuild.  Got hit by a catering truck when I was bartending a wedding.  Bent the bars and controls, ripped off a mirror and part of the fender (now a halfy fender thanks to Mr. Hacksaw), scratched the tail plastics.  Since then I've replaced the bars with BM Superbike bars, tilted back slightly which actually makes the bike more nimble (feeling), installed the Katana wheel/shock, 14T front sprocket,  installed new short LED blinkers front and rear.  Plenty on my to do list, but the tail is next, and paint after that as I don't want to ride around with a red tank, gray frame and front wheel, silver tail and rear wheel.  Still to come, after the tail and paint of course:

-replace the fork seals/oil OR all new twin disc front end, Katana or GSXR
-new clutch/brake handle
-new pegs sans cute rubber covers
-R6 exhaust
-new front fender
-rear hugger (can one be fit w/Kat wheel?)
-dual headlight setup
-SV/Ducati Monster gauges

I tell you guys, the best thing that could ever happen to a lazy GS owner is for it to be hit by a truck.  Pretty much forces you to "cool it up".

I'm definitely not the one to ask about those sort of mods--or any really for that matter.  But, I do like your ideas, and you'll have to keep us posted.  I would love to have a little sturdier front end (and DUAL DISCS!) and a more supportive shock for my big bum for sure!  My GS already assumes I'm carrying a passenger.  :icon_mrgreen:
