To my eye, the red wheels, emblems, and chain look a nice honest red, and the anodized stuff looks too pinky-red for a serious red/black scheme. Powdercoat them all?

+1 Love the bike

I'd have to say that's the sweetest yet. I'd like to know all the parts and cost of everything to do it.

Is it possible for you to tell us all?

Sweet!

Nick

This bike has been in work in progress for so long because I also ride her while I'm working on her so let's see.

She's a 96 model, bought her in 2004 for $1600. Bought the the Aluizio GS500R kit from Brazil for $800 not including shipping. It included the tail piece with a cowl and a passenger seat, rider's seat, front lower and upper fairing, headlight, windscreen, undertail exhaust with two ATV carbon fiber mufflers and modfied clipons. I got a major discount on shipping, practically free since I was purchasing a prototype and promise to write a review for them.

Since then I've gotten rid of the underatil exhaust and kept the mufflers to do an underbelly exhaust setup. So in order to fill in the two holes in the tail fairing where the mufflers use to go, I got two LED caddy taillights as my stop lights. Modified a gsxr windscreen to replace the clear one I got with the kit. Replaced the front fairing turn signals with clear ones.

-Carbon Fiber LED mirrors
-Targa rear led stop and turn signals
-anodized red pegs, bolts, levers, bar ends, keyless gas cap, earl's clamp exhaust extension so I can put a baffle in the pipes if needed
-red led underbody lights
-red led gauge lights
-cbr rear set
-5" frame slider in the back, R6 frame slider in the front
-Kat modified front fender

-k&n pods
-iridium plugs
-Bob's ignition advancer
-rejetted 150 jets, 40 pilots, 1 washer lift and 3 turns
-bandit rear wheel with modified torque bar, 160 tire
-gsxr gas adjustable rear shock
-DID red chain
-EBC brake pads
-progressive springs
-15T front sprocket

That's all I can remember for now. I'll probably redo the wheel color this winter and she's done. Don't want to work on her anymore. I just want to ride. I also have an itch for this....her cousin  8)

Damn man, brav-o ......brav---o
Seemed like a good idea at the time

Looks fantastic man!  How did you do the Bandit wheel?  My major aesthetic gripe with the baby g is that teeny-tiny rear tire.

Great work!  I do think the key to really getting that right is to not overuse the red.  If the chain, bar ends, windscreen and wheels were black, your bike would be perfect.

My bike will be heading to the garage and then the paint shop once the weather gets rainy..  Muahahahhahha..

So let me understand your logic or I'm I missing something here. You got a better deal because you bought an 8 year old bike in 2008 for the same price as mine when I bought in 2004?  :icon_rolleyes:

Alright, but my 96 for $1600 had 1600 miles on her and clip-ons when I bought her in 2004.  :flipoff:

Was the fairing direct bolt on or was there modifications that were needed? Also, do you have the website/number for the maker of it?
Thanks  :thumb:

Fairings came with brackets which mounted to the engine mount bolts. No cutting or drilling etc.

They have new kits now which run for $1000. If that's not steep enough the shipping from Brazil added to the price would probably be worth the price of a good used GS.  :o

Anyways here's the the main site and the GS500r site...

laserred97gt

That site shows GS500R kit is $1000 USD including shipping.  You say shipping is on top of that.  Is that shipping only within their country then?  Why use US$?

Anyway, it looks SWEET!  especially if you get the upgraded tail for $700 more.

Lets see...  $1700 on top of $700 I bought the bike for = $2400.  Not too bad for a sweet lookin machine like that.

Dammit.

Your bike is kickass.  love the colors

I'm probably the only one to say take off the GS emblem and the 500 badge, so people only see the red S on the side cover and have to really  guess that it could possibly be a GS500. They pull my eye from how clean the bike is (I used to be a sculptor). You want your eye to just sweep over the lines of the tank and the sides. Otherwise there is so much careful thought put into this elegant bike, it is tremendously slick!

IMHO that would make it even stealthier, which I LOVE how much it looks like a stealth streetfighter. Awesome, awesome job, what a beauty, put pics in the albums please!!!   :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Thanks.

That 'GS' side emblem is starting to get to me. It makes me feel like one fo those sticker racers. I probably will remove that. I get alot of compliments on the uniqueness of the 'suzuki500' symbol and it really looks nice up close. It's also a vintage decal and cool. Would have preferred it to be all red instead of white and red.

I'm thinking of also getting rid of the 'S' symbol on the side covers and anodizing the covers red to match the other parts.

Someone ask me the other day where the can buy a 'suzuki500' model and I almost started laughing but told them ask for a 'gs500'. :)
