ok, so im getting a gs500 for free. whats better than that right... the thing is its been sitting for a year. But the spark plugs were kept in, the carb was closed, and it was drained of gas, and given a full oil change before it was "stored." I have no idea what year it is though. :dunno_white:So included is a picture, any help on year model etc would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks ...

Put the key in the side and open up the seat - year is on the info label under the seat.

More definitive can be figured from the VIN on the frame, in case other parts (like the fender that sticker is on) have been changed.

1990 GS500EL - with moderately-ugly paintjob.
1982 XJ650LJ -  off the road for slow repairs
AGATT - All Gear All The Time

1989... the only year factory clip-ons came stock, unless they were changed.

I'd suggest you try and find out why it was left sitting. Looks like its not all there and if it had a major engine problem you may be better off parting it out than starting to spend money on it.
On the other hand, if it turns over freely, has good compression and the gears work, then it could be a bargain. Good luck! :thumb:

It took me a little bit to find it again... Suzuki VIN decoder:

Check out the tyres before getting too enthusiastic on the road, look for cracks and signs of crumbling, if you see anything like that change them ASAP. Enjoy your free ride!

In Cricket the testicular guard, or Box, was introduced in 1874. The helmet was introduced in 1974. Is there a message??

You have to ask yourself, is it worth the time effort and money? You could buy an early GS5 in reasonable condition for what it will cost to get that bike running, tidied-up and roadworthy (notice the rust bubbles on the tank?). But if you like a challenge and are prepared to loose some money ............dive right in!
