Another GS Down....Just To Rise Again...And Again

Well it's really been a while since I last posted anything here. Just a refresher for anyone the cares go Here for my first bike related post.

Well since then quite a bit has happened with me and my GS. Biggest thing to note since my thread (above) to happen Was I Got a "Non-Looking Left Turner" turned into the lane I was in, looking to go the same direction. Full Story Here With Pics   Also Learned a lession there...always a police report and insurance follow up on any accident!! Woulda been much easier if I did it that way. Since then...someone stole my stator cover one night so I Duct Tapped a bowl on so I could ride in wet conditions. She developed a nasty habit of leaking oil all over from the cam chain tensioner gasket. Because of lack of time to repair it (too busy fillin her up and riding) and lazyness.

That catches us up to before last night.

OK, my girlfriend and I decide to run down to a friends house thats about an hour and a half away on the GS around like 9pm. Everything is ok...until (dun dun dun) we're about 1/3 of the way out there and I notice the GS doesn't seem to have quite as much power as usual. Well decided to ride it out...stupid. Well, about 10 miles from their house the oil light comes on and I ride about a mile then pull over cuz it seems to be very slowly losing power now and the lights still on. So I call them and ask if they can run me a quart of oil. While waiting for them i notice the motor is MUCH hotter then usual. They finally arrive with the oil...seemed like forever while thinking about te possability of losing my beloved GS to engine sezsure. I dump in about half (usually takes that much to top her off)...Check the level....NOTHING....crap dump the rest in and now it's showing a little. Started her up and let her idle for a few minutes. My girl decided to ride with her friends so its just me on the GS now. We take off and everything seems normal to me...no weird noises, usual power. Get up to the speed limit, 55, slower then I usualy do. We start going around a bend in the road and a few seconds into the bend, I hear this deeper sounding "chunk" sounds then the rear locks up. Freeze frame, Before I hopped on a bike I decided I wanted to learn as much as I could to stack the deck in my favor if something like this happened. I'd practiced locking up the rear on purpose several times at slower speeds (25-30) in parking lots incase this ever happened (I think everyone should!!!!). OK Here We Go Again...So I'm leaned over on my right side with the rear locked up and the back end starts coming around. I stood up a bit and pulled the clutch in anticipating the "highside" flick (Granted in not sideways...maybe 30-35 degrees from the direction of travel) Gets some grip on the rear and throws herslef strait...with some heavy persuasion lol. The slide felt like when your sliding a really heavy mountain bike. Then I lean back in to finish the bend and pull over to the side of the road. Starter wont turn her over....2nd and 3rd gear bump starting wont turn the tire. Funky smell from the motor. Texted my brother to see if he'd help me pick it up tomorrow (this was last night so today) and went to our friends house. Call my mom to come get us, (boring details and such here). We got to bed at 3:30AM just to wake up at 6AM for Work at 7. Now I'm waiting for my brother to find a plank so we can go wheel her into his truck and Thats where we are now.

    Now to the project stuff that is what you really want to see...Well oviously haven't gotten too far yet but, as of last night I came across a perfict GS to work on like I've wanted to....it was either not ride and make her nice and shiney or ride. So I guess onto my hopes and GS dreams.

    I'm thinking a rebuild almost from the ground up. Its gona be a slower build as I get cash for the goodies. So my vision (thus far) A Naked Streetfighter (read as no fairings at all) with a monster seat with the back end up there kinda like this

A rear hugger with chain guard...Carbon fiber would be awsome...I remember reading about some floating around

Also thinking about a custom tri-bar case guard mounted on the two rear most engine mounting brackets and the forward most.
I'm thinking the tank, frame, swing arm and rims will be Black then other parts will be gold, and maybe some silver
Use the newer style GS Tank
Duel headlights...maybe the Angel Eyes
About the motor though...besides the oil cooler and stator electronics on the newer motor is there any other diffrences i would need to know about swapping it into a 89 frame besides swapping the 89 motor stator electronics into the newer motor and mounting the oil cooler on the frame?

I'm not getting a new bike cuz I'm young and sometimes stupid...and I dont need anymore power to possibly kill myself. Plus I like the idea of making a "cheap" bike real nice...Any Input would be awsome.

well so far youve got some good. ideas, im still contemplating getting rid of my gix 1k can exhaust on my gs, and getting a buell underbody pipe :thumb:

You reminded me about that (under body exhaust) and I've been thinking abut something like that but I'm not too sure. I'm going to go pick the bike uptoday with my brother. Planning on tearing into the motor to learn my way around it and find out exactly what happened in there. If i can find my camera there will be some pics!!
