well im good with a bender . So i think im just gona make my own bars .

Steel is 7/8 out side diameter and 1/8 thickness maybe 3/16.

The stock bars are 1/16th wall or even thinner if its possible. 3/16 is very very very fat. The first iteration of my bars were 3/16th. It was heavvvvvvy. I went to 1/8th soon after and it was still pretty heavy, but about same as stock with the inserts and weights on it. These worked without needing weights, cos they were weights

what kind of bar design are you going with?  If you are going to do something like buddha did back in the day than I'd say you've probably got an market to sell them if you're willing to make more of them...I know I would buy a set.

i was thinking some stright drag bars ? anyone have a set on ther bike ? Like them or not so much

if i get a stick ill prolly get 20 feet so maybe ill make a couple diffrent kinds and see what i like . I just want some that sit low profile

7/8"?     This is a metric bike, not an old Harley or BSA........it will be 22mm O/D

I dunno, several people have asked me of late, I have said I'll make it later this year (winter - welder availability etc etc have kept me form doing it now) ... just so y'all know, I dont want to hear any squealing saying the Big Bad Buddha muscled in on my bar business. <- Oh yea that ... say it 5 times fast.

What about making a real set of clip ons . I have a cnc mill . The only thing is i would need detailed measurments , or to have some one to let me barrow a set to measure myself . That way i could build them in autocad .

I need to figure out the material cost . Im assuming they are made of aluminum? And once i build it on the program it will be simple to build a pair . And possibly build them to order if it becomes something people would like to buy.

Just a thought . Im new to bikes but i have alot of building knowledge as far as drafting and milling goes .And my best pal is way better then i am so betwen the two of use we can make just about anything

What do you mean by a "real set of clip ons"? Are you thinking about replicating the '89 set up with the upper plate, risers, and bars? Or are you thinking something totally aftermarket that uses the existing upper triple? Or something altogether different?

As for materials and measurements, Buddha's the man you'd want to hear back from. I think he may be the only guy who has multiple sets of '89 clip-ons at any given time. You'd be hard pressed to find someone here who'd send you his/her set of clip-ons for measurements, especially since you're relatively new here. (Welcome, by the way!  )

But if you give us a location, maybe there's a baby G in the area with a set of '89 clip-ons that you could visit (or could visit you). If you could turn something out (bar or clip-ons) that was more aggressive than stock and affordable, you'd definitely have a market on your hands.

I was just thinking i could reproduce the same thing as 89 clip ons but hopefully for a little cheaper . Not sure how hard they are to find , but i was guessing they are kinda hard because of there year ? Maybe not

But it would be just as easy to change them a little to make them more aggressive or easyer to fit to the bike, But seeing as im new to the hole bike thing i dont know what that kind of change that would be . But any ideas could be put into action if anyone want to help design them .I have a 3d printer that makes things out of abs so I could always make a cheap plastic pair to see kinda how they feal . They wouldnt be super strong but would give an idea of how they fit and feal befor sending to the cnc

I am located in california by big bear .

Again this is all just a thought . i kinda like to take on projects like this , but if its more trouble then its worth i wont bother

If you made a bar that was flat (meaning if you set them on a table every part of the bar would be touching the table) and made them have the same angles as the clubmans that'd be perfect IMO.  See what everyone else thinks though.

I get asked this A LOT.Real clip ons clamp directly to the fork tube.Most factory clip ons(89) use a top plate with bolt on clamps to hold the handle bars.The Katana 750 is kind of like the GS while the Katana 600 don't use a top plate.The clamps bolt directly to the top triple clamp. 

Tripleb- Yea clubman's wihtout the drop. Actually narrower too. No wider than 12" from handle tube to handle tube. I think mine were closer to 9-10".

General - I clear out the FE/general work backlog and I am getting on it. Hopefully my welder in his depression after his separation from his screeching shrew of a wife will spend all his winter days and nights in his shop and we'll all have good handlebars. After all his getting married and happy was what put the damper on the whole thing. Who cares who is happy/sad as long as I get my handle bars. However in summer he's busy getting laid by trailer chicks while "fixing" their roofs. So there has to be some benefit for me too.

Nofearblackstar - The 89 GS triple was cast and then milled.

Pronator - No more 89 triples after yours goes out. There is 1 that may be back, but there is another guy wanting it.
