Handlebars...

I've been searching the forums for a while now, because I'm in need of a new set of handlebars, after letting by brother-in-law ride -- and crash -- the bike last weekend.

So it seems like tons of us that have to replace handlebars go for the Bikemasters.  I've seen recommendations of the GP Touring and Superbike models, in particular, and some nice pics of bikes with the Clubman bars -- not for me, I think.  But, in all of this discussion I haven't been able to find an answer to my question, which is this:

The Bikemaster Daytona, GP Touring, and Superbike model handlebars list a "center" measurement of 4.4", 4.8", and 4" respectively.  I understand this to mean that the center section of the bars, between the first bends is that length.  But, when I take a tape measure to the bike, I measure just a hair under 5" from outside edge to outside edge of the clamps.  So I'm curious, am I measuring from the wrong spot, or how exactly is it that these bars fit the bike?  I'd hate to order them just to not have them fit.

Thanks everyone, and may I say that I think this site is possibly the best site I've ever seen in regards to sharing useful information about a particular subject?

I'm sorry, I don't have an answer to your question... but welcome to the forum!

And here's a free bump  ;)

If I understand it correctly, you would measure backside of the bars from center of bend to center of opposite bend.May wanna consult the manufactures website of the handle bars you have chosen.A google search may shed more light on this.
PICS are GONE never TO return.

Big Shot

I just ordered a Daytona bar a couple of days ago and didn't even think to check the center measurement on the bike to see if they'd fit...  I guess i'll find out Monday, lol

The Buddha

They should be ~5 inches, I believe the 4.8 will make it, 4.4 maybe and 4 inch - no.
Cool.

beRto: Thanks, it's nice to be here.  And, I have no idea what a "bump" is, but since it's free I'll gladly take it.

ben2go: I've searched all over, but can't figure this one out.  Although, others have recommended a couple of these models, so I'm assuming they have some experience with them.  I just don't understand it myself.  (I'm slow, but I get there.)

Big Shot: If you wouldn't mind posting and letting me know how the Daytona's work out, that would be great.  Those are the ones I've been leaning towards, so to get some actual feedback would be fantastic.  I'd even be willing to re-gift the bump I got from beRto to you for your time.  ;)

Buddha: Sounds like the Superbike model is out, although I'd swear I recall someone recommending them.  See above about me ass-u-me-ing.

Thanks everyone!

 A "bump" is a reply intended to bring the thread back to the top of the list (they are ranked according to most recent response)
