Hey, it's only fair you guys have to have winter too!  :icon_mrgreen:  I don't even want to consider it now.  I'm just getting used to riding, and the last thing I want to imagine is shutting my baby in for long stretches of snow and ice covered roads!

I'm still riding to work with the temp down around 0. heated grips are the best thing since sliced bread.

Winter?  What's that?

Ohhhhhhhhh!  That's right.  You guys hanging on upside-down to the bottom of the world are running low on sunshine.

Pity, 'cause it's plenty warm up here.  Pass the sunscreen!   :icon_mrgreen: :icon_mrgreen: :icon_mrgreen:

*Will probably pay dearly for this sometime mid-January)
Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?

I've done alot of silly long distance winter trips in temps as low as -5 and my best advice is layers!!!

Thermal top, two tshirts, (long sleeved sweat shirt, high necked fleece jumper, (a wind cheater on top is optional and desirably if its going to be frosty, wet or foggy) then of course your motorbike jacket (close vents, zip in inner warm liner if jacket has one)

thermal leggings (or skins), board shorts then jeans or preferably dragon jeans.

Two pairs of footy socks, water proof boots

Thermal glove liners and winter gloves (having warm hands makes such a massive difference.)

Baloclava for your head and anti-fog the inside of your visor (spit or a thin film of detergent are cheaper alternatives)

Yeah you'll feel like a michelin man but if your doing any more than a couple of hours of riding it becomes real important as the temps + wind chill factor approaches 0 and below.

I just fitted a pair of Oxford Hot Grips.  For more details see this thread.

They were $129 from Sydney City (although most places seem to have them for around the same).  At that price they're cheaper than most winter gloves and now I find myself just riding around in my summer ones.  I'm a big fan.  :thumb:

Geez I wish I had your heated grips on Sunday.

I rode from Sydney to Wagga Wagga which incuded a stint in the snow from Marulan to Yass. I counted 7 cars that ran off the road.

My hands froze!!!! My fingers were in absolute burning pain. My throttle hand was feeling it the worst. Then suddenly the pain went away in the hand.

Hmmm, the temp hadn't got any warmer so what was happening. I then realised I couldn't take my hand of the throttle. AI bent forward to discover a layer of ice had formed over my glove basically freezing my finders into position.  :icon_confused:

I battled on and made good use of the Yass servos hand dryer. It seriously took 5 minutes to get feeling back in my fingers. I'm certain I was on the verge of suffering frost bite.

If your going to ride through such cold, wet, snowy conditions I recommend some sort of water proof glove. Once your gloves get saturated in such cold conditions they turn into freezers for your hands.

I use the xtra large Cotton Lined (these slide on easier) Dishwashing Gloves over my Winter bike gloves in the mornings, (and in the rain) by the the arvo the temps up so dont need them any more!
They are a bit grippy and feel a little strange at first but you get used to them fairly quickly, you just look like a dill with your Fluro pink or Green hands sticking out :icon_mrgreen:
Only issue is they tear easily im on my third pair this winter.

I'm more than happy with the heated grips, to only thing is that at -5 some hand guards would help.

Yep

Layers, Layers, Layers and more Layers.

I ride in all sorts of stupid weather as I decided to buy a new 08GS instead of a second hand car.  I hate cars anyway so a little cold wet weather comes with the deal.

Good wet weather jacket, pants, boots, gloves etc

AND

Layers, Layers, Layers

Oh and 1 more thing I find that works a treat to keep the cold out of your helmet is a nice wooly scarf stuffed down the front of your jacket and the end of the scarf stuffed up the front of your helmet.  This keeps the cold air blast out of your nose and eyes on those cold days.

Someones else suggested them to me but I have no idea where to buy them?

Try Coles or Woolies.
