  • No Gear
  • Consistantly riding beyond their ability
  • Riding for nothing else than to get attention
  • Riding recklassly and endangering other road users and pedestrians
  • Giving other bikes a bad name
The fact that quite often they are a sportbike rider doesn't make them a squid its just their squid weapon of choice. Which means sportbike riders often get branded as squids straight off.

posers,  guys with a bunch of chrome and LED lights.  guys who buy 600 or litre sport bikes as their first bike.  baby boomers or mama's boys who all of a sudden become "bikers" because they bought a 50cc scooter.   guys who think they can outrun cops or think that because they have a  liter bike they can whip anyone on a 600 or 750.  squids are basically those who have not put the time in riding and think they are all that and a bag of chips.  oh mohawk helmet thingies + squid.   having your chick as a pillon in a halter top = squid. oh man could i go on and on

Humm...  I always rock my gear even when it is 90 degrees out  as it has been lately.  Never ride radically, crazy ,no whoolies,  no burnouts, always respect traffic laws.  However  I  like mods.... I like different .... don't mind being noticed....  SO I guess your right Frankie I am a Squid because I will be rocking the Helmet  Hawk .........  :icon_twisted:

Squirrely Kid, that's the original bike refernce meaning of SQUID. It applies to sport bike owners who can't ride properly because the they come to a ridiculously low speed before changing directions and shooting off at high speed in a staright line, just like a real squid does.

C'mon guys get it right.

Why didn't you just go the whole way and buy me a f@#king Kawasaki you bastards.

yamahonkawazuki

ill simplifiy it, and jsut say " an irresponsible rider", some ride w/o gear, but ride well, i dont call tehm squidly, ( stupid maybe, but not squidly. whereas some wiht full gear ride VERY damned idiotically )

This makes sense to me ..... def not who I am  I purchased the GS to become a better rider so I'm not the SQUID.  I took the MSF class and only ride with in my ability.   Thanks  Mach1 ....... for clearing that up

You're #2 is kinda flawed...  I understand your reasoning for this one, but my question is this:  Who (other than the rider) denotes what is their riding ability?

Also, the no gear part...  SOMETIMES I ride without gear... including a helmet, but that's RARE for me....

Chrome & LED lights...  that's JUST to make the bikes purdy...  I *LOVE* LED lights, but I'm not gonna spend $100+ on that stuff...  Chrome is ok.  I don't consider that a sign of being a squid.

The 600 or 1000 litre comment is bogus too....  it's WHAT YOU DO WITH IT...  NOT WHAT YOU BUY.  I think my dad's first bike was a 750 and less than a year later, he got a 1100... Squid? no.

So people's dreams of owning a Ducati 1098 is a sign of being a squid?  I consider that a litre bike AND it's $15,000+

Yama's comment is the ONLY one I agree with 100%.  I know riding without gear is STUPID, but I don't consider that squidly.

Riding ability is ultimately judged by the laws of physics, which are a bit less amenable to daddy's lawyers than the laws of the state. While you may, for only one example, get away for some time riding faster than a speed which allows you to stop within the distance you can see, when enforcement comes as a crunch rather than a siren it's difficult to argue with. I'm not going to bother to go look up who, but a member here was recently shocked, just shocked, to find gravel in an off-ramp which caused difficulty with taking the ramp (likely posted at 25-45mph or so) at 70+. Regardless of posted speed, if you can't deal with anything, anything at all, showing up in the road ahead of you, you are going too fast for conditions, unless you are on a racetrack where other people check the road and warn you if it is not clear. Stuff falls out of trucks, transmissions blow and dump fluid on the road, mufflers fall off...

A $15000 litre bike - as your first bike? That would be interesting, to say the least.

You want interesting?  Try a 75k street-legal MotoGP bike as a first bike.  It's been happening and that's why you can find D16RR's for 50k all damn day now.  Stupid old guys with more money than sense buy em and crap themselves inside of the first 300 miles :cookoo:  I actually saw one ebay listing where the guy admitted he had replaced the seat as it stunk from when his bladder let loose.

all joking aside, having a Mohawk does not make you a squid...but we will give you a hard time about it :)

i owuldnt pay that much for a bike. regardless of its equipment, id mod a gixxer to gp spec, and go from there. for less. heh id like a gp spec bike, but damn at that much money id be afriad to ride it. would be kinda like taking a ferrari to teh local walmart. youd coem out, and it would be damaged from jealousy

There is no modding a Gixxer to GP spec's. At 800cc's those are one off custom bikes making 220+ HP and weighing in at right around 300 pounds they have some of the most advanced engine control systems ever developed other than F1, and they're coming really close to reaching that level of engineering.

Wanna mod it to AMA or WSBK specs? Thats easy Ohlins R&T suspension, $15,000 dollars. homologated aftermarket full race exhaust $2000 to $5000 dollars one tuner box Dynojet or YEMS 250 to 500 dollars and performance center custom map.

Anyone buying a supersport or superbike off the showroom floor is buying a homologated race ready machine in street clothes, the big boy's spend literally 10's of thousands of dollars for each HP over what you or I can buy, they're tuned to that high a level anymore nowadays. Stock suspension and brakes are required in some of the world and ama classes as well as at club levels like CMRA. This talk of high end exotics is just spectacularized crap.

Yes you can get 3 and 4 generation old GP race bikes for those prices but even if you don't total it youl'll never keep it running for long and theres no production parts to even fix them.

We have a guy over on fireblades that has over 100 bikes in his collection and is a club level AMA, WERA, CCS and CMRA privateer, many of his bikes will never be started because many of the exotic GP's he has have an expected engine life of 2 hours. Some of his former ama and wsbk bikes he races or uses as track tools for a short while then he just puts them away in his collection.
Why didn't you just go the whole way and buy me a f@#king Kawasaki you bastards.
