Yea I was all along thinking that we will go to Georgia's rescue. After all President Bush thinks its a part of the US ... but then I realised that Georgia does not have oil. Bingo, that was it then. Georgia (both Georgias) you're on your own.

Cool.

Lol so funny it was the first thing that popped into my head too when i heard on the radio.

Russian presidant has called off all military activies in Georgia after increased pressure from western countries led primarily by presidant GW, theres me thinking old GW sticking his nose in again, what on earth does he have to benefit, theres no oil in there for him.

perhaps it has nothing to do with oil? perhaps it has something to do with being a potential NATO ally? who knows :dunno_white:

Oh yes! The only pipelines from the vast oil and natural gas reserves that does not go through Russian or Iranian territory. The Caucuses region is reconed to be the worlds third largest concentration of reserves and currently needs infrastructure and investment, the biggest pipeline is 30% owned by B.P. Maybe the new Tsars are less than delighted with that situation. "No oil" is a bit of an over-simplification as oil is involved in the equation. President of France was on-the-spot pretty quick which tells us something.

Georgia exports Caspian Crude to the West...aka...us and the rest of the civilized world. All be it a relativly small amount, its still oil.  One of Russia's bombs actually almost hit a oil pipeline. Please know your facts first before bashing.
Russia is not a counrty to f%$k with, They do have nukes after all.   It was a very touchy situation.  Georgia was in the wrong in the first place.  Russia Had to put them in check.  Russia did go a little far, but they ceased after beating the snot out of them.   Now If Georgia was just minding its business then Russia attacked, Then we'd have a different issue and prolly wouldve helped in some way other than FLYING ALL OF THIER SOLDIERS BACK TO THIER HOME COUNTRY WITH OUR AIRCRAFT TO FIGHT THIS SLAPFEST.  This wasnt about oil at all.  Georgia f%&ked up, they payed the price.

OK sorry I am calling BS on this one.
Why ??? Russia's first response was to claim that those people hold russian passports and hence we are going in to protect them. I am sorry, I have to call BS here. If they hold russian passports, they should be asked to leave.
They now claim that the Georgian troops attacked russian peace keepers first. WTF are russian peace keepers doing inside georgian borders. Peace keepers are designated and installed by UN or NATO or whatever coalition. Other wise they are just soldiers performing an invasion. So I call BS there too.
Georgia wants to emulate the west, wants to join NATO and has grown at a good clip after the fall of the USSR. That is counter to what russia wants. I'd say Georgia has very little to gain and a lot to lose by engaging in any activity that can provoke russia. They know this well. Russia OTOH, has everythign to gain and a massive military installation who can crush georgia like a mouse. I'd say russia started it, they have more of a motive and a lot smaller risk.

Ossetia and Abkhazian  are pawns in a territory war between Georgia and Russia.  Both of which The Us cooperates with on a multitude of matters there fore our hands are tied. DAmned if we do damned if we dont.
Peace Keeping forces of non UN Type usually come from countries with a vested interest in the host country, and are biased.  Its not a UN force(they wear pretty blue helments).  Its an inconspicuos Way for Russia to employ a military occupation of  a country that once belonged to them that they lost during the huge Split of the Soviet Bloq Nations. I.E. Unkraine, Ploand, Georgia(who used to control Ossetia and Abkhazian)
Once the Georgia Ossetia split occured,  Russia offered these so called peace keeping forces to Ossetia to aid them in thier defense against a Georgian backlash since they both have a comman enemy, Georgia. Pretty much Russia saying"If we cant have you,  no one will"
Its all part of Russias courting of Ossetia trying to coax them back under thier wing. hence the Russian passports and the ability of the ossetians and Abkhazian citizens to border hop at will.
Its Russias and Georgias squabble over control of Ossetia.  Typical of the former Soviet controlled Nations.  Look at Bosnia and Ukraine and Yugoslavia.  Same shaZam! different toilet.  I compare it to a woman leaving her obbsesive over bearing control freak husband and the madness that ensues in its wake.  This kind of shaZam! will continue to happen for hundreds of years.
Look at Israel and Palestine.
This type of war seems to be a trend amongst the old world nations.
Pride will make you do stupid things.  Yes Russia is technically no longer considered a Super power(they think they are and act like they are...they just have lots of nukes and very dehumanized soldiers) They dont have the same military might they used to due to an extremly low defense budget.
I could go on and on and on, but im done.  I cant debate.  I get all moody.  Im not sayign i am debating.  AS you can read many points of each member are similar.  Im just bailing before an idiot comes along and destroys what little temper i have.

I am just saying Russia threw the first punch, and well, they are still punching after they signed the ceasefire agreement.
The whole breakaway region and we give you our passports is so freaking old. Pakisthan did it in Pak occupied Kashmir and have spread it to Indian occupied kashmir.
If Ossetia's security is what Russia wants, create a country called north ossetia and put all the ossetians there. And before crossing the borders to secure them, call on the US for a resolution and then have a designated force keep peace.
Anyway, the US, we should have a policy to only help countries that have a lot of oil that have agreed to give us their oil. Just having oil doesn't do nothing for us, its like a hot lesbian. An ugly my mama is preferred to a hot lesbian.
