After stripping everything off the bars Where are the bolts that actually hold the bars on?  Are they the two nuts under the top section of the triple?
Oh This is on my 05 GS500F.  Ill post some pics of the job before and after to show how it looks

there are 4 allen head bolts 2 per clamp. under each clamp there are the two long bolts that hold the top and lower triple together.

Time depends so much on you.

Pay attention to how things were before you take them off. Put them back in the same order and orientation,  basically. Should be under an hour if you know how to use a wrench. No holes to drill - bar position is all about having the bars and clamps clean, and tight. They are meant to be adjustable - you just want to make sure they don't get loose and adjust themselves while you are riding, if you get the idea.

Before you put much back on the bars, check clearances lock-to-lock after you flip the bars.

Wifes kinda worried this will be my first what she thinks is a major mod.  But i used to work in the fab building in a limo shop so i think i can handle flipping the bars.  Thanks for all the advice and tips.  I was going to do clip ons or clubman bars but i was looking and clubman bars look pretty much like the gs500 bar just upside down so thats what im going to do with mmine and see if i like it. And clip ons are a bit more money that i want to spend on bars.  I would rather take that money and put it to a new slip on

Check with Rabid-viper06 - he did this, and could not wait to grab the 89 clip on's out of my hand ... I gave him a set of clamps to use as risers matter of fact. It still scraped and clobbered everything.

You mean when he flipped the stock bars they hit on the fairing and tank? Budda do you have any more 89 model clip ons for sale?

Do you already have risers to lift the bars? If not there will not be enough clearance on the top plate/triple tree.

I do have 1 last shiny set ... but on a 04+ you need banana bent handle tubes too ... which I cannot get for a few more weeks.
Viper used risers raising it 3/4 inch, and it still was a miserable fit.

I am hard at work (read ... seriously thinking about it) on the problem.
BTW I need an 01+ tank. Can be rusted, dented (not that front bulged area though) rotten to the core and rusted ...
Cos I need to nail the profile just perfect and dont want to be guessing. The reason my previous iterations of bars were good was cos I made them on a GS, for a GS, and to work on several sizes of people. Lets see, I am 5 ft 10, my welder is 5 ft 11, and his brother is 5 ft 10.5 ... all 3 of these varied heights of people agreed it was the best. Just kidding ... I also included ginovega who was 5 ft 9.5.  :thumb:
Anyway, as soon as I am done with some other crap - and welder is done banging trailer chicks, the bars are getting made.
Cool.

Well, I dont want to ruin a nice tank really, I doubt I will have a use for it after I finish the thing.
That 100 bucks aint a bad $$ but I dont think its going to stay at that $$ ...
