Ok I'm tired of being a squid.  Even though I am 26 and have been riding since I was 16 I still don't have any proper gear.  I am wanting to purchase my first jacket.  I live in AL and hope to get to ride to work on into the fall.  I want a jacket that can be worn in summer and on cooler fall days in the fall.  Right now I am mainly concerned with those cooler fall days.  New enough is selling the Teknic Chicane Textile Jacket for $79.99.  I like the features of the jacket and that is a price I can afford.  Since I know nothing about the subject I was looking for a little help.  I have done all the googling and searching I can but would like more info.  If you can offer some advice I would appreciate it.

I have a Teknic mesh jacket that I like very much. Air flows through it so well that I still wear it zipped up during the 100 degree days we have been having this last week. In the mornings I have been putting a North Face windstopper fleece that I have for skiing underneath and that has been good down to 50deg so far and then when it's hot I syuff in in a backpack for the trip home from work. From what I have seen Teknic gear seems to be good quality and that is a good price. I would also recommend a textile jacket from Fieldsheer, Tourmaster/Cortech, and Joe rocket stuff is good too. I believe Motorcyclesuperstore.com is having a closeout sale on all Teknic products as well so you might check there too.

I just bought the tourmaster intake series 2 and i love it. i ride any where between 50 deg. to 100 deg. and it has kept me warm in the cold and cool in the heat. 2 zip out liners, one is the free flowing out side layer, then the water prof wind prof layer, and the warm quilted layer i picked mine up for 180 or so but thats just cause i did not want to wait to get it shipped hear. Better deals are to be had on the internet i am sure.

I love my cortec GXAIR I got it at the stealership for $150 and it does quite well here in the Sunshine State ! I also have a Nexo protector armor that is just the armor held together by mesh. I usually wear a leather jacket over it but once it gets in the 90's I will wear it by itself. Don't know how well it would stand up in a slide by itself but better than nothing and $68 on Ebay.

I ran into a problem yesterday with the jacket.  I need a 52 inch shoulder but according to their chart my belly is too big for that.  If you go by belly size I need a 54 inch shoulder to get the belly in.  Think that would be too big in the shoulders?  I am 6'3, 240 lbs. with some long arms.  I would hate to order it and it not fit.  Unfortunately there is nowhere close that I could go try one on.

i think you're just out of luck... I have a similar problem 6'4" 190 w/long arms. I got a xl j rocket because i found if fit the closest. I actually need a L for my chest (43) and a xxl for my arms 36. way big around the belly and around a 3/4 or so to short in the sleeves..... unless you can find someone and be willing to pay to have a one off made  :dunno_white:

I'm the same size as you (6'3"; 240 lb). I wear a Joe Rocket Atomic XXL.

I found that within the Joe Rocket line there were variations in sizing. On some models (Alter Ego, I think), XL fit OK but not perfectly. The Atomic XXL was the best fit of all the jackets I tried.

Think a XXL Joe Rocket would fit?  How would mesh with the liner be on cool fall mornings?

I think the XXL Atomic would fit (well it fits me really well, at least). The other models of Joe Rocket were too big in XXL - the XL in some other styles was OK, but still didn't fit as well at the XXL Atomic.

I guess it depends what a "cool fall morning" is in your part of the world. I'm guessing Alabama is a lot warmer than Vancouver! If it helps, I've worn mine down to about 15C (60F) quite comfortably.

I love my joe rocket Mladin replica jacket.  Take the liner out open the vents and its almost like not even having the jacket on but put the liner in zip up all the vents and your toastie warm on a cool michigan night ride.

On the way up to the NASCAR race in Bristol yesterday I stopped and tried on a couple jackets.  It looks like I am a 54 or an XXXL depending on the brand sizes.  I decided to go with the Teknic Chicane from Newenough.com because of the $79 price tag.  It should be a good jacket to start with and hopefully never test on the pavement.
