if i were ever forced to get a cruiser i would get a Japanese one before i got a hd.  i just don't like hd, they suck, too heavy, low on power, low on torque, mechanically unreliable.  i don't like the hd crowd and the image that goes with hd.   hd sucks, hd riders suck,  hd gear sucks, hd stores suck....everything about hd sucks.  it is just American propaganda and media BS that make the so called hd legend.  hd sucks

i dunno - the TC96 is not short on power. and a 1200 sportster is CERTAINLY not short on power, and a v-rod is fast as shaZam! too.
And thats the first time i have heard somebody accuse HD of being low on torque.
And HD is consistently rated really good for reliability - the new ones are very well built.

If HDs sucked, they wouldn't be the best selling motorcycles.

dont get me wrong - i love me some suzukis and some hondas - i just wish they would bring their good bikes here.
look at the suzuki.co.uk site - they get so many better naked bikes then we do.
at least we still get the honda 919. if i was looking for an I4 sportbike - the 919 would take it, or the k1200r

hd is #1 on something and that is marketing...making it part of americana.   if you look at the power to weight ratio they are very underpowered.

1183 v-rod is 107 hp at 645 lbs    600cc bikes under 400lbs do that all day

the 1200 sportster is a pathetich 60hp...yup i looked it up and even i was suprised at that horribly low number.   our little gs is running what 48 hp and 372 lbs.

i dunno, my wifes 883 sporty is much faster then a GS is.
Cant beat the GS's handling, but it certainly tries - that thing can turn a lot better then you would think it would.

This has become a funny topic for me. I see all walks of life on my daily commute. If traffic allows, i tend to wave at every bike with the exception of spotless choppers.

Most riders in gear on sports bikes are already waving back or clutching with a head nod.
Most riders without gear on sports bikes are either a no response, or i watch them almost rear end a car due to waving.
Most riders on ducati monsters do not wave.
Most riders on choppers are people who only ride once every other month and are thinking about what gear they are in. Dont notice other riders.
Most riders on touring/cruisers wave depending on what neighborhood your in. All of them on my commute from hollywood through west la would wave. All of them from hollywood to inglewood on my new commute do not wave.

While this is what i feel happens, i know a return response is totally unpredictable. Due to the nature of traffic in los angeles, not getting smooshed usually comes before waving. Im never happy about it, but i get waves every other day that i dont get a chance to acknowledge.

Mdow

i wave at every one if they don't wave back they are eather a snob or to busy to wave and nod at stop lights cause i almost waved at sombady and dumped the clutch but i stoped my self before i did

and no scooters they are usaly emo kids here

well i must be the exception and not the rule then
cause i ride a harley (and before that i rode a suzuki harley knock off) and i wave at everybody

i definitely do the nod if my hand is occupied though - hopefully people notice and dont think im a douchebag for not waving.

GeeP

I wave to anybody on two wheels, even bicycles.  [snob]  Although non-motorized two-wheelers don't get the "special" wave.  [/snob]

We're all humans, a little humanity goes a long way.

I usually get a wave back.  If I don't, oh well.  Maybe they were busy, scared out of their mind, or just don't like my ride.  I did my bit.   :)

I was driving down the expressway today, and witnessed two sport bike riders wave at a guy on a h-d.  The h-d rider turned his head towards them, and didnt do shaZam!. No wave, no nod.  Just looked striaght like, whatever.  oh well.

yesterday downtown i was putting on my gear and saw a guy on a brand new Kawasaki 600 ninja.   the light turned green for him and he was looking down at his left foot and pressing like crazy while revving the engine and looking up.  back and forth back and forth the "i don't have a clue what i am doing" nodd.  he got the bike moving at high rev and letting the clutch out way way too slowly and awkwardly.  going going through the turn slow, still doing the head nod looking up and down. he finally made it through the light but i could hear him up the block, rev, clutch, rev clutch.  obviously a newb who had no idea how to ride.  but still i would have waved to him.  eventually he will get it.  as for the scooters they are still looking shocked that a guy on a sport bike would actually wave at a lowly scooter.  ah they deserve it more than the dork who can't ride. love for everyone :)

I dont wave at scooters here. Most everyone on scooters and mopeds in los angeles are wearing tshirt, shorts, flipflops, and brain buckets doing 15 over the limit and splitting lanes. I avoid drivers who make such poor choices.

I wave only if they have a helmet on

No helmet no wave  :icon_twisted:

I like your concept.  I usually wave if they wave at me first, but I think I'll wave at helmets from now on. :thumb:

i just started the, no helmet no love policy, today.  I have yet to be so strict as to not return a wave from a helmetless rider.  That will come soon enough i suspect. My form of silent protest to thier stupidity.  :)
