John, sorry to hear that. Hope that all will work out good for you soon.
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

Whoa, that sucks!  :x

There is never a good time to get layed off, but early December is particularly nasty. My wife got layed off about this time a couple years ago. Many places were looking, but not hiring until the new year.

You know I have been there and it sucks  but it sounds like you are in better shape financially than I was.
Good luck in the job hunt

I'm sorry you got laid off, John, especially after putting in 14 years for your employer. That's rough. I got laid off two years ago, and I was devastated. But now I'm glad, because I'm in a much better situation now than I would have been if I'd stay there. So good luck to you.

Im sorry to hear that!  This is the time in your life when you realize what is really important, and make changes to facilitate those needs.  You will always be welcome in Milwaukee! Good Luck!

now here is your chance to come to Cali..

Just look at it this way, with your experience you could demand more money for the next job.

Hey John,

I live in a suburb of Milwaukee.. what kind of job opportunity do you have here?

RC

Hope you can make the best out of a company's bad decision.

My company does layoffs during the holidays--does wonder for moral and loyalty. Dumb asses.

I'll drink a beer for you.

One that I will not take.

I am not putting any demands on myself as far as deciding today what to do.  My wife wants me to go back to school and get a degree in Comp Science or similar.  I might take her up on it but we have time to decide.  For mow I'm just gonna wait through the holidays then start to decide what to do.

I hate the question"What do you want to be, when you grow up ?
I am 30 something and I still don't know. :x

Sorry Rema, Stephenson was wrong.  Coding software has already gone to India and Pakistan, to a great extent.  I guess that leaves pizza delivery.

But seriously John, sorry to hear about the setback, but be assured you'll get thru it and probably will end up much happier for it.

Not knowing what your job was or skills are, it's hard to give advice.  The general job market here in the midwest sucks, but we always have a hard time finding a good handyman, carpenter, electrician, etc., and it looks like anybody willing to work hard can get a good lawn-care business going in the summer (snow removal or painting in the winter).

Me, in your circumstances I'd be tempted to go into competition with my old place, just to show 'em.

Best of luck.
