If I think of american riders, I think of a guy in a t-shirt, jeans and no helmet. Maybe it's prejudice, I've never been in USA but everytime I see a stuntvideo or somthng like that no leather and no helmet. i know that most of you do wear safety equiptment. i can't force anyone to wear it but here's something that could change your opinion about wearing it.

Well for me... helmet and gloves always, else I dress for the weather. In summer... yea a phoenix jacket and pants/jeans, winter... the whole kit and kaboodle... Not that I am typical of the american rider.

In Texas, you can get a waiver from wearing a helmet if you take a safety course that tells you why you should always wear a helmet.  

The cruiser crowd tend towards the t-shirt, jeans, no helmet.

The sportbike riders are split between the tennis shoes and shorts, no helmet variety and those that wear complete or mostly complete gear. The sport riders do seem to be better about wearing helmets.

It gets HOT around here in the summer (100 deg F/38 deg C) for weeks on end so the gear gets lighter during that time.  :dunno:

I wear my helmet/jacket/gloves/boots every time, I generally wear jeans if I expect the ride to be quick or if I'll be on and off the bike shopping, otherwise I wear armored pants.

You gotta consider the difference in climate...

ALWAYS have helmet, jacket and gloves.  Sometimes the boot - sometime shoes and pants appropriate for the office.  On long trips leather overpants.

There are an unfortunate number of people I see wearing less safety gear than they use to play racquetball.

The kind of rider who would pop a wheelie in the street with no helmet is exactly the kind of rider who would video-tape him/herself and post it on the web.  Its' the 'vocal minority' phenomenon.

Most of us wear proper boots, jackets and helmets... and we don't post videos of ourselves at uponone.com either   . its a shame that full leathers haven't caught on here... I would make me feel a little like a 'gear-head' walking around in racing pants... oh well... anyway, you get the point.  We're not as reckless as you might think (most of us, anyway).

very true...

the stunt crew of 25 that i usually ride with always has on their gear.  maybe not full leathers but at least a helmet, jacket, and gloves.  some have boots too but i don't think anyone has put the money down for pants.
as far as the average rider goes i think almost everyone has attempted to figure out the wheelie at one time or another, and thats as far as most go with the stunts.

I realise that the stuntviedo's are just a small fraction of all the riders and not everybody is like that, so no offence. the point was to prove that shaZam! happens when you least expect it and that why it's a good idea to waer safety equiptment
