I know of a 2006 Honda CBR 600RR for sale and I have really been drooling over it. What do you guys think about it? Are they reliable? What kind of gas mileage could I get? Anything...let me know the good and bad. I have a 2007 GS500F now just for reference. Thanks!

They're definitely beautiful bikes.  AFAIK they're very reliable.  I had no problems with my '05 other than laying it down  and having to get rid of it.  I don't think the power will be a problem, but know that a 600cc supersport is FAR, FAR LESS FORGIVING than our gs500s.  Gas mileage will be a bit less than the GS, but it depends how you ride it.  As I said, the main issue is the geometry.  These are high-strung race machines with lights and mirrors, so please, be careful.  80mph on a 600RR will feel like 40mph on your GS.  Seriously.  These bad boys cruise at a buck 20 all day long.  I would maybe look at an F4i as those are a bit more relaxed as far as seating position and overall ride, but have the same powerplant for the most part.  If you get the RR, mad props.  Just make sure you get a steering dampner and frame sliders right away.  And of course, always wear your gear.

ya i can only imagine what that thing is like a freind let me ride his 04 R1 OMG!!!! how could you put a turbo on somthing like that i want to ride an R6 bad somthing with less power but that thing was crap your pants fast and it was bone stock.

i will never buy a sport bike past 600 CC ever

i would def be carfull on a 600RR if you can find a used one for sale and see if you can test ride it

it would be a BLAST on the track tho

before buying one check with your insurance first that might change your mind.  im almost 30 and for a cbr600 it was going to be over 150 a month and for the gs500 30 a month

IMO, the CBR600RR is an excellent bike overall, quite literally 3-4X the power the GS has EASILY, and its much much more aggressive in every way.

fuel economy, you can expect anything from low 20's to 50 depending on how fast you ride.

and the RR is NOTHING like the F4i, the motors arent even related, 10000000% different internally, and externally.
looking for a new vehicle again.

It's a Honda- of course it will be reliable! Honda is first and foremost the worlds most prolific engine companies. There is a reason whatever the current version of CBR 600 is always at the top of every supersport shootout done- it does everything excellent. Superb handling, excellent brakes, not always the most power but because of the handling they are barely slower than the competition (R6, Gixxer 600/750,etc.) I'll likely buy one after next summer...if I don't go Triumph Street triple...

Depends how much you like the "bent over a sawhorse appendages at weird angles" riding style.  I like to enjoy my bike for long periods of time riding around the country.  I could never own something like that as a primary ride.  Sexy no doubt, but terribly uncomfortable.

Make sure it still has a second gear.  Repli-racers get thrashed.   :)

Thanks for all the responses! I have always been a Honda car freak and I just love the CBR. I do LOVE the bike but I agree that insurance would be unbearable, gas mileage isn't nearly GS500 status and all-around comfort would be an issue. I won't be racing it...I will want to use it more as a commuter and "fun" bike.

What I really need to focus on is making a mature decision and not an impulsive one. I am 24 with only a few months of riding experience and I have not had this GS500 too long. Even though I think the power on the GS is fairly low, I don't know if I should hop on a CBR yet. On the flipside, I have talked to many people who had a 600cc as their first bike and said it was fine. I may chill out and get completely used to my GS500. It will also be much cheaper to fix if I happen to make any mistakes. (knock on wood)

I'd get the F4i myself over one for the bullet proof motor, better ergos, and lots of aftermarket for it.  Just a great bike all around.  If not that, a yzf600r or an fz6 would be the other choices only for ergos and not trying to kill myself with knees to elbows on a couple hundred mile ride.
GS500E with a bunch of cool stuff!

ya a 600 would be an OK bike to start with but not a new 600 once they put fuel injection and started REALY upping the compression ratios 600 got nasty i also tested a 88 ninja 750.  fast yes but new 600's blow them out of the water.  i would serously try and ride a newer 600 before thinking about buying one i had NO idea have fast bikes were till i got my GS and i had NOOOO idea how fast bigger bikes were till i rode that R1 and it really scared me. there is no way i could own an R1 and be alive into my late 20's

You have to bear in mind that to get the real performance out of a CBR you have torun the thing on the ragged edge. Personally, I would just rock your GS awhile until you have some good experience under your belt and then do a lot of shopping around to find what is best for you- buying a bike solely on looks isn't very smart- what if the seat or position is uncomfortable as hell- then you are screwed. Oh, and the insurance will pwn you for years.

Several months ago I was convinced I wanted a Triumph Daytona 675. Boy am I glad I stuck with the GS. If advice is what you're looking for--your patience will be rewarded! The impulses are fun, but can definitely bite you in the a$$. Wait to get the Honda, sit on other bikes, take friends' bikes for a spin around the block, and really work on improving your riding on the GS! You also may find that your tastes change. I've since switched my F to a naked E model and am much happier. I never knew I was the naked/streetfighter/supermotard type, but if I get a new bike in the coming years, it'll be one of those.

How many miles have you put on the GS500?   A 600RR will get ~40 mpg on average

Ok, well I was looking around on craigslist and decided to go look at a 2001 CBR 600F4i just for shits and giggles...I test drove it and it was fast as hell once it winds up but just as stated above, it was UNCOMFORTABLE AS HELL!! I could not imagine riding that for more than a half hour. I've only put 1500 miles on my bike and I don't plan to give it up anytime soon.

HEHEHEHEHEheheheheheeheh!  I don't understand why they sell so well.  They're torture racks for people under 25 so far as I'm concerned.

Have a look at the Honda 599.  Same engine, SMALLER bike, better ergos.

Pocket rocket!   :icon_mrgreen:

Also, check out the SV-650 naked.  Imagine a bike that pulls hard 2 gears out of the power band and sounds like a Ducati.   :)

600rr is a great bike, unless you push hard don't worry about the damper to start. It doesn't have the same level of tourque my 954rr has which does make the front end much lighter and prone to head shake on rough roads. 06 was the last year before honda put the electronic controlled damper on FYI.

If your over 30 and your insurance would be that high your getting raped. Full coverage, to include comp and collision on my 954rr is $26 a month, my wife's 600f4i is $17 month she's 27 and I am 37, which would be the same for the RR since our insurance bases it's decisons striclty on engine CC's and not on model/type.

If you have good self control and a moderate level of riding experience the 600rr is a great bike. Now on to intended purpose, if you do lots of long distance riding no it's not comfortable, but for day rides in the 500 to 600 mile range especially in the twisty's I have never had a comfort issue on supersport or superbike level machines. If your doing lots of straight line long distance highway mileage it's not the ideal choice.

I prefer the leaned forward position versus the vertical position because you use your back and ab muscles to absorb the transmitted shock from bumps in the road instead of taking them vertically up and down the spinal column.

As for second gear manufacturers in an effort to keep the gear box as quiet as possible don't undercut the gears as much as they should, That problem is actually rather minimal though and I don't know anyone personally that has had the second gear issue. It's a problem with people who can't ride that think they are the next great road racer or stunter.
Why didn't you just go the whole way and buy me a f@#king Kawasaki you bastards.

Real performance, you can't use it's full performance on the street, PERIOD. And again on insurance pwn'age your getting screwed if your insurance on one is expensive.
