hd is #1 on something and that is marketing...making it part of americana.   if you look at the power to weight ratio they are very underpowered.

1183 v-rod is 107 hp at 645 lbs    600cc bikes under 400lbs do that all day

the 1200 sportster is a pathetich 60hp...yup i looked it up and even i was suprised at that horribly low number.   our little gs is running what 48 hp and 372 lbs.

boooh yahh

That's absolutely pathetic boobage to compare an 1100cc cruiser to a 600cc supersport...because 600cc supersports are the ONLY 600cc bikes making triple digit numbers "all day".  A real comparison is an 883 Sportster to...say...Suzuki C50.  Given, the Sportster does have 70cc on the Suzuki, but they have identical performance numbers (hp, tq, top speed, quarter mile, etc) and the Sportster has the benefit of an engine that requires no maintenance outside of changing the oil.  Want another example?  How about the 1200 Sportster compared to...oh....an M95.  The M95 has the HD beat on hp and torque...73hp vs 70hp and 92lbs vs 69lbs, but Suzuki had to use another 300+cc's of displacement to do that.  I don't know why...I mean, by your logic, the suzuki should make another 50hp with that edge in displacement.  Must have made that up by making the M95 100lbs heavier and 200mm longer.

HD makes great bikes that are VERY competitive within their market and are competitive because they are GREAT bikes.  HD's marketing department is good but nowhere near as good as Budweiser and Marlboro.  There's no magic there.

As far as the original topic...

Cops, firemen, soldiers, vets, ambulance/ems/etc...all get a wave from me.  Tremendous respect for these guys.
All motorcyclists get a wave from me and the ones who don't wave back get a birdie.
Scooters get a peace sign and a wave.  Two wheels trumps four, no matter how big the motor is.
Dirtbike people in the fields and ditches and such get a "rock on".
Bicyclists get a peace sign or a birdie...depends on whether they showed respect for the people on the road behind them wanting to travel faster than 15mph.
Children get a wave.  School buses get wave.
Anyone who waves at me or shows interest in my ride gets a wave.

now frankie is comparing apples to oranges.  ;)

how is that? we are comparing power to weight ratio's.  for me that is a top 5 comparison.   yes they are different bikes but i am answering post that say that the hd/buells are powerful when they clearly are not.  of course they are different styles, meant for different riders, under different conditions.  but they are not powerful when it matters to plain ol physics.    i hear all the time 'oh my so and so has a 1600" or whatever.   the "no replacement for displacement" adage no longer applies.

you're comparing cruisers (apples) to supersports (oranges).  Who the hell compares Sportsters to GSXR's?

It was nice out and all the bikes were out in force.  I think maybe 15% had helmets...seriously...wtf.  Oh well its thier right to die here in kentucky.  Its also my right to not wave at stupidity in motion.

Motorcycles, all of them. Scooters, none unless they wave first. Cops all of them, though I would rather flip them off, but I wave because my Valentine1 just saved me again, and paid for itself over again. Best radar detector ever IMO.

Ry_Guy

I don't usually wave or even nod at HD riders, because I never get one back. But I noticed in the past couple of days (since it got colder) that they are starting to nod now. Maybe they do have some respect after all  :dunno_white:

bikejunkie223

They just are starting to realize how goddam hard you are, or their hand is numb from all the vibration and what you think is a wave is just a shake out to try and get circulation back.....
