Hi everyone. Passed my big bike test just under a month ago and landed myself a '97 GS500e which i have been having some fun on for the past two weeks. Glad i found gstwins.com, it's provided me with some good info. Did a mini service / clean up over the weekend and it's running even better now.

I think the bike in an import from France which is now registered in the UK and the speedo reads in KPH, i've fitted a cycle computer i had lying round which will do for now, but idealy im looking at putting a speedo on there which reads in MPH. I'm guessing i've got a couple of options;

putting in a new mph speedo - but would that need any kind of conversion on the wheel end of the speedo cable, or can you just attatch on an MPH speedo from another GS?
changing the face of the speedo so that it reads in MPH (although the oddometer would still read KPH), if i could get it open...
Just putting up with it

Cheers, Ste.

Our speedos marked in mph in large numbers also shows kph below the line in smaller numbers.  No small mph numbers on the kph speedos?

407,400 miles in 30 years for 13,580 miles/year average.  Started riding 7/21/84 and hung up helmet 8/31/14.

I am surprised that your bike ever got an MOT with a speedo calibrated in KPH, testers probably not paying enough attention. Anyway the easy answer is simply to fit a MPH speedo head, get one from a Breakers or t`bay.........but shop around, used ones that show low miles tend to be worth more than ones that show high miles  :laugh:
