Hi all,

I just took a look at the German Suzuki site and it seems that for 2004 the naked GS is upgraded as well, with an oil cooler and all the buzz around the carbs. Just check carefully the picture. What I am interested in is to install the oil cooler to my '99 model (hopefully the OEM price is ok). So, if somebody tries it, it would be nice to share the methodology. I have a friend that has put one to an XR600R and he said that it was relatively easy. He will help me when the time comes.

I didn't see an oil cooler on that bike.

Sorry to burst your bubble...
Are you sure they specificaly state there will be naked version of the GS with all the upgrades or did they just not update the pic of the GS?

And retro fitting an oil cooler on an older bike may be harder than you are thinking.  The head on 'Lita's '00 GS has a port casting for the oil cooler that is absent on some of my older race engines.  I guess we will have to wait for the new bikes to come out...

Lee (Jody Matsler's race bike) from sacramento has actually fitted a oil cooler and a remote filter to his race bike. I am actually trying to locate the,. If anyone in Sacramento can do this please PM me... Those guys are cool, they do painting and other custom work on sport bikes. However I have lost their number. I can give directions to the shop etc though...
Cool.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. Just look carefully under and above the exhaust ports. They seem like small pipes from the oil cooler at the same position as the GS500F oil cooler. As I remember, in my GS's engine there are those receiving points under the exhaust ports. I don't remember about the head though (now the bike is in a warehouse for the winter). Hopefully it is possible to install an oil cooler.

Thats the horn. The oil cooler is bigger.

There is an oil cooler kit for the older GSs. I saw it on ebay a few years back. It plugs into the side gallery plug and dumps back into the oil filter cover.

This new one is different in that it goes from the bottom end, thru the cooler, and straight up to the head.
