On my way to work this morning i was involved in another accident. I was in the southbound right hand lane, car was in the southbound left hand lane. The driver decided to make a right hand turn from the left hand lane, resulting in me smacking into the rear door of her camry. A few months ago i picked up the habit of covering the break and clutch while approaching intersections. I feel this habit paid off and things would have been worse if i had to spend that extra second to reach out and grab the controls. Im fine, only a small scratch on my arm and shaken nerves.

Bike tumbled around on the road a bit. Seems the front and side fairings are broken, both turn signals are smashed off, and one mirror smashed. Due to the impact and the fact she had insurance, i didnt even bother trying to ride it to the shop. While all the damage appeared cosmetic, i didnt want to risk driving on possibly bent forks, brake rotor, ect. It was towed to the shop. Now im just waiting to hear what the damage is.

Back on the bus again.. 


I was just tagged five months ago.

Unless you're going to turn right ast the intersection, I consider the right lane the "Death Lane".

Oh yea, the blind people, we must encourage them to drive ... after all where is the equality if we tell the blind not to drive ...

Ouch! That sucks. I'm glad to hear you're ok. You should get a headlight modulator if you don't already have one... People notice me way more now that I have one. It could have helped a bit...

That totally sucks.  Hopefully you'll be well covered and compensated! Keep us posted on that!

Now that I've read it, I'm going to have apply ToddG's sound advice.  Definitely not something I've ever considered in a car....

If only life were like a video game and you could smash people or their cars, without any real consequences, for doing stupid things like that.  Glad you are ok.

If only life were like GTA (I, II, III..whatever number were on) then you could have dragged her out of the car and beaten the shaZam! out of her and stole her money

Im glad im in one piece, and im really glad she was insured. Last women that hit me was uninsured and flaked on repairs.

As ive always seemed to have less than optimal luck, this experience is forcing me reconsider if commuting 20 miles a day through los angeles surface streets is really a wise decision. Ive been in two accidents in 6500 miles, both no fault of my own. With high speeds and overly aggressive drivers, it just seems like its going to happen over and over again. Im not going to rant about throwing in the towel, but it is crossing my mind. Meh. Im sure its just my nerves talking.

i think were on gta 8 ( not in number but in how many have been made)

I think I would have been far less likely to saddle up if I had been in the big city.  I don't even like riding through my little one stop light town, much less Cambridge--the next town over, a frightening megalopolis of 10,000 or so.    I just don't like cities that much.... They're okay to visit, I just don't really care to live there!

Glad to hear you're ok. Just give your nerves some time. Like the amount of time it takes for the repairs to the bike. Then just take things one day at a time. You'll be fine, just more alert to stupid cagers.

Got back in town last night and received the quote for the bike. The bill from the shop will be $5,909.97 to repair/replace everything that was damaged by the crash. Im still laughing at the cost of the suzuki oem muffler.

I'll talk to my insurance agent tomorrow, but i can only assume they are going to total the bike. May be in the market soon for another machine.

I understand what you mean, I don't know if I could do LA all day.

Things are starting to look up.

As expected the woman's insurance declared the bike as a total loss. The unexpected twist, this insurance company does not collect vehicles they total for parties not insured by them. I picked up the bike today and rolled it two blocks down the sidewalk to store it outside of where i work. After a few minutes of it on prime, it started for the first time in three weeks and runs fine.

The list of repairs from the shop are almost all due to cosmetic issues. The only thing im not 100% about is they wanted to replace the front wheel. I cant tell if there is any damage to it besides the little scratches. It needs new bars, a new front brake line, front turn signals, and i think it will be ready for the street.

I was starting to shop around for an sv650sf or a ninja650, as well as throwing in the towel and getting a cheap used car, but now its looking like im going to do an f to naked conversion and stay with the gs.

Still waiting to hear the offer they make to me..

One thing to consider, dare I say, may be your method of driving with the type of people around you.

This is no reflection on you, but given that you have had two tags in recent months, maybe you need to change the way you drive to suit the type of person and the particular time of day.

I hope I am not trying to tell you how to suck eggs, but it may be worth looking at - I always look for positives in any situation.

No offense taken! Neither of the accidents were anywhere near my fault. While ill be the first to admit i make mistakes time to time, im nothing but a defensive driver. I dont speed, i dont split lanes going faster than 15 mph through unmoving traffic, cover brakes and throttle at intersections, so on and so on. Ive spent plenty of time replaying both incidents in my head, and there really is no way i could have predicted the illegal actions made by the other drivers.

Last time i was in a left hand turn lane when someone attempting to cross three lanes of traffic and the double yellow cut in front of me. This time someone made a right hand turn from a left hand lane with no warning.

There is a ton of traffic here, and ive just been in the wrong places at the wrong times.

if there's one thing I hate riding in.. its rush-hour... cagers dartin in and out of lines trying to save 20 secs of time on their daily commute.  Pick a lane, stay in it and pay attention to road signs...

anywaaaaays.... glad you're OK!  are you getting any other money from her besides for the bike?  injuries or anything else?

I will NOT use my bike for commuting the idiots out there... i rather drive.

I am glad you are okay.. personally i will take the bike on the weekends but for a daily  commute, no way.. its easier to take teh car.

When i was shopping for vehicles i quickly found i could not afford the payments on a reliable car along with the insurance, gas, and maintenance. Spending countless hours on the bus (combined with the childhood dream) lead me to the decision of getting a bike. Its affordable and i live in a region which allows one to ride all year without harsh temperatures. Spending the past week in a rental car has reminded me its not a lot of fun spending two hours a day stuck in traffic.

I was ok. A little banged up and sore, but all in all intact. Her insurance has yet to make an offer on the machine they totaled and gave back to me. They have put me in a rental car and have mailed a 500 dollar check for pain and suffering which i was not expecting.
