The diaphragm didn't come off the carb ... all bolts had to be drilled ... float had holes in it ... more.
Cool.

I had a set that was ALMOST that bad on my 75 CB550K.  half the float bowls had a thick buildup of dried gas/varnish/demonic crap in them, and it was a real joy to clean.

that set is probably a prime candidate for a complete rebuild, and a sonic bath after a 24 hour soaking in the most potent carb cleansing agent available.
looking for a new vehicle again.

The Buddha

Oh ... no carb cleaning agent was needed ... mostly atleast for much of this black crusty crap ...
I removed the drain - this huge ass carb had a 6mm drain plug ... and the crud was a nice thick layer on the under side of the bowl. I pushed it with a blunt rod and a good 1/2 of the bowl came off like a layer of caramellised sugar off the bottom of a bowl. Further scraping with a pick got much of the bowl clean.

Then on to the carb body ... penetrating spray, PB blaster and pick and metal tooth brush got great big flakes of it. I blew a hole in the float - freaking thin ass copper crap ... but the GS550 floats will fit I think ... and they are plastic.

Then continue cleaning with gas, spray carb cleaner, brushes, picks, screw driver etc etc got most of the thing except the nooks and crannies ... and float needle etc etc were still stuck ... and I have it soaking in iso-heet and gas with PB blaster and gas with spray type carb cleaner repeatedly. Like fill the bowl with it, and re fit the bowl and leave it 24 hours ... then dump it, repeat ... I think today tommorow I'd get all of it free and out ...

And rebuild ...once again ... do not mention the word rebuild to me unless you're talking about getting new metal for the body, and new everything ... not just O rings ... That is just a resealing job ... or re O ringing job ... rebuilt ... is a buzz word the shops like to use to justify a $90/hr bill. Much like "Automotive recycling boutique" for junkyard.

Remember, its not crap if it sounds french ... Like "crappe" ... and we'd pay premium $$$ for it ... just like we do for "Starbucks Crappe-cchino".

BTW I plan to put new O rings in this and new mains and pilots ... uses 50 pilots but just the same pilots as a GS, and uses 155 mains - same type as a GS. I may drill my pilots with a #37 or so drill ... and maybe save the mains by cleaning it with a wire ... anyway ... its soaking as we speak. Hope it cleans itself by tommorow.

Srinath,

I know you're a cheap ass bastard, but you really have to stop trying to burn road tar and mineral spirits in the Savage, K?
Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?
