When I start my bike in the morning and turn off the choke (still cold) when I rev the engine it pops kinda like a small backfire? And it also stops revving (stays on) and makes a thump noise, but after I rev it a bit more after (30 seconds) it stops and is fine. Just wondering if it's bad or what.

If you don't understand I'll explain more.

I turn on bike using full choke.
Wait about 1 minute with full choke.
Turn off choke
Bike revs low because it's cold.
I rev it and it pops and like stops revving and makes a little thump
Once I warm it up a bit more it stops.

Any help will be great.

Try a minute or a little less with full choke, then ride off with half choke, keeping the revs low until it's warm enough to idle properly with the choke off.  It sounds like you just haven't warmed it up fully yet.

Yeah it's not warmed up all the way....but I'm wondering if those sounds are bad like something is wrong?

no you just havent warmed your bike up enough just let it run longer before you turn choke off

I have an 08 gsf.  On cold mornings I leave it on with full choke for about 45 seconds, cut it back to half for about 20, then cut the choke off.  I then let it idle for about 2 minutes before I actually get on it.  Some times ill let it idle longer.  But Thats my choke routine.  Just let her warm up.  Shes a fickle thing on cold mornings. :thumb:

I start my bike with choke, reduce it down to acceptable revs (probably about half choke), ride off down the road and by the time I'm one or two blocks away I flip the choke off as I'm heading down the road.

A GS backfiring into the carbs = very very bad ... and buddha cannot come to your rescue either ... I just swapped my last good slide for the burnt ones off one pair of carbs ... who shall remail unnamed.
Cool.

From the description, I'd guess it's a lean pop and not a backfire...
