man... I can't even keep a straight face!

Dion - Celine Dion ... yea I vote Celine Dion.

Canada doesn't matter, they're not a real country. They have only been invented by US to help draft dodgers wait out the draft.

Cool.

20 things about Canada.  "not a real country"

1. no deficit....spending has been under control for 15 years
2. public health care, great but still could use upgrading like medications being paid for
3. largest source of oil outside of the middle east
4. #1 trading partner for the US
5. taxes are not out of control...see #1
6. parliamentary system which allows for election of all members and no "appointments" to such things as minister of national defense.
7.  PM can not override parliament
8.  very low crime rate
9.  very low number of persons in jail
10. no death penalty
11. decriminalized marijuana
12. constitution is the law of the land
13. police can not just pull over a "suspicious" vehicle
14. a very good social safety net (to help the less fortunate)
15. well respected through out the world
16. more than 2 political parties
17. a very low "gun culture"
18. guaranteed income for seniors
19.  universities are not excessively expensive
20.  educated and motivated work force

oh shut up....i have done more for my country than most and especially you.  so don't give me that crap.   jeez why does saying another country has great things about it makes americans so angry.  prolly cuz our country, i am american, is such a mess right now.   oh i am living in canada right now....moved here about a year ago

i do take offense, and it has nothing to do with your service. your service is saluted, appreciated. but don't give me the "i do more than you" bullshit.  i TRIED to join the armed forces. couldn't. i'm too hard of hearing. how many others do you think are like myself frankie? imagine yourself, 18 years old, your father, his father and his father, all served their country. you try to follow in their footsteps only to be shunned away. i cried myself to sleep with a bottle of jack in my truck that night. i'll never forget that empty feeling.

ok no problem...it is just saying "move there" is a less than intelligent comment and does not add to the conversation or debate.   it is a typical ignorant response when reason fails.

oh boy that is hard.  OK lets say i am in a fantasy land and as prez i could get all passed.  i would try to balance the budget. how?   raise taxes on high income persons and corporations. cut spending on police, federal prisons,  the military and much of the "police state" that we pay so much for.  i would be out of Iraq in a year and out of Afghanistan in 2 yrs.  i would force pharmaceutical companies to charge Americans the same as they do others in order to stop the overpayment and outrageous profits.  i would cut the pay and benefits for all elected officials, to set an example.   i would streamline our tax system to make it more fair and to decrease the bureaucracy.   i guess the main areas i would change are health care and defense.   i would change our external affairs to make America a friend to the world and not a super power to be feared.  but balancing the budget would be the main goal that would be a very large challenge and take years to accomplish.  removing tax breaks to American corporations would have to be handled with tact and to ensure we don't force them out of the country.   i would also try and make America more self sufficient when it comes to fuels.  bringing the LNG pipeline from Alaska to Washington state would be a important goal.   that is pretty much what i can think of off the top of my head.   to do this would be almost impossible within the constraints of our republic system.    much of the pork barrel expenditures and getting laws passed through congress is much harder to do than just writing up a law and saying "there ya go" lol.

oh i agree with you about the 2 party system.  Canada has a parliamentary system which even if it were 2 party it would work better than a republic.  a republic has a elected president.  but the rest are not elected in the executive including the VP. so that is not a democracy at all.  appointing a defence minister and attorney general does not happen in a parliamentary system.  but here in America our president may appoint whom he chooses.  this is not right.

hmm...you may be on to something there frankie.

but the republic system does allow for citizens to vote for their head of state directly.  a parliamentary system does not allow for that. you vote for your member of parliament, whom ever he or she may be.  then which ever party gets most MP's elected the leader of that party becomes the Prime Minister.   so if you want to vote for a person to be member of parliament but you don't like the leader of the party then you have a problem.  because a vote for the member is a vote for the leader.  so the party and its leader plays a vital role in a election under the parliamentary system.
