I've heard of it but don't know exactly what it is.  Is it just like a hike in retail (or whatever people buy) tax to, say, 23%? (I used that number because it was one I saw on the website)  If that's the case, what is the benefit?  I don't really understand the tax code but wouldn't that mean that poor people who pay little to no income tax right now would actually pay MORE in taxes for the things they purchase?  I know it'd be fair, but could they afford it if that's the case?  I'm not sure I really understand what it is but that wouldn't seem to be a good idea if that were the case.

IIRC it removes teh IRS, and a few otehr agencies, and is an across the board tax. from what i understand, everyone benefits. including the poor. that understanding is subject to change, the more i find out though

To me the solution is even easier- a flat tax. Everyone pays the same percentage of their income. This isn't unfair to the poor- you don't make shaZam!, you won't have to pay shaZam!. The only issue would be rich assholes hiding their income so you still need an IRS to audit those pricks and make them pay their share. Then you need to kick the federal government in the balls so they stop being so wasteful with our tax dollars. Unfortunately none of this will ever happen.

I don't see how a flat tax would be easier. You would still have to a file an income tax return. It pisses me off to have to spend hours of my own time or pay someone else to do it.

I wonder what the Buddha thinks of that, if I understand from some of his posts, he's up to his ass in Income Tax BS right now.

I've heard of it. You'll get many different opinions on it but you need more info to get a better understanding.  If you want to learn more about it, get the book or borrow it from a the library.

From what I gather, it's based on your consumption so you only pay taxes on what you buy.  So you get your whole paycheck and don't spend on taxes till you buy something.  I'd support it based on what I read a while back.  Should re-read it to refresh the ol' memory.

The flat tax would be a lot easier- if you made x amount you pay y % of it in taxes. No deductions, no bs.

IMO, this would suck for allot of people.  My parents and grandparents are retired and have fixed incomes.  They would be in trouble. After collecting income and paying tax for that money already, another larger tax on goods would only be another way for the government to steal money from them.  For that matter, anyone with a fixed income is getting raped twice.Think about it, anyone who is retired, received a settlement and paid tax will be in trobule.  This is something mike huckabee was for and the democrats are trying to push for.

That idea has been floated for decades. It forces people on welfare to "give their fair share" too.

As cold and cruel as it may sound...........there are plenty of them driving newer cadillacs than I have and buying prime rib while wearing gold teeth and swiping their "government card" while cackling like chickens. To watch them in a checkout line is repulsive. It is insulting.

Flat tax---10-15% across the board would be better. But "they" aren't gonna go for that. They never operate with "lesser". It's a continuem of "more", until we've finally had enough of it.

From what I'm reading on the site, it would basically be a national sales tax. Income tax would no longer be collected.
How much easier than that could it get? No deductions, no BS...you buy something, you pay the tax on it...period. Illegal aliens working here that don't report their income, they buy stuff too....presto, they pay taxes.

I see your point there. Say you have 50k in your mattress, you've already paid taxes on it. Now you get to pay tax again when you buy stuff. That got me thinking about Roth IRA's, same kind of deal, those saving are post income tax dollars, so you buy stuff with that money and get taxed again.

On the other hand if your parents and grandparents are living on a fixed income from investments, then they no longer pay tax on the returns from those investments. They only pay taxes when they buy stuff.

yamahonkawazuki

IIRC that is why the fair tax would work, , it removes saleex taxes from items and such.
