I need to replace the throttle assembly on my 89. The plastic tube is crack and the whole assembly is very loose. Will these fit?

If not does anyone know where I can get an OEM or one that fits?

first one appears identical to the one on my 01 gs500. Also looks same as sv650 one so I'm guessing Suzuki used the same one across all the model lines for manufacturing efficiencies.

Second one wouldnt load pictures but probably same.

Both work on gs500. You could buy both sides to update your older bike.

The GS uses a single cable pull throttle assembly. GSXRs, SVs, etc use a dual cable "push pull" system.

You can use a 2 cable one on a GS, AFAIK the starter/kill switch hasn't changed in years, but you are safer if you can find a GS specific one.

Out of curiosity does the SV use the push/pull system also??

I'm looking at doing similiar things to my bike (I already have the left side control pod).

Even if you do get a push-pull throttle tube, if you don't replace the pulley on the carburetor itself, you can just use the throttle tube with just the 'pull' cable (make sure you put the cable end in the right spot). At least until you do get the push-pull pulley for the carbs.

The other great thing about push-pull throttles is if the pull cable breaks you can switch in the push cable to get you home.

I'm new at this so please correct me if I'm wrong. So everyone is saying that the push/pull throttle assembly would work but I would only need to use the pull cable and disconnect the push cable. Right?

There fairly inexpensive compare to a new GS throttle assembly.

You do have to completely switch the cables thought. The push cable doesn't push hard enough to articulate the carb pully by itself.

I would be careful about swapping carb pullys too BTW. Make sure the are the same diameter and pivot location exactly. Otherwise you will have the ratio off and wierd things can happen with throttle response, because the throttle "pully" isn't linear.

And one last little nag. If you install a 2 cable throttle make sure that the unconnected end is stowed somewhere where it can't get snagged on something as its going in and out, for obvious reasons.  On second thought you might as well remove the cable from the throttle and plug the hole in the bottom of the pod...
