if you are a newb then why are you looking for a 883cc or higher bike?  also a HD is definatley not a beginner bike, not because they are some powerful beasts but just the opposit.  they can be very tempermental and hard to run and maintain.   there are pleanty of 500 or 650 cc bikes that are lighter (HD weighs a tonne) better value and handle well.   i have ridden several 883 and i can not figure out why anyone would want one..they suck.   the sv650 is not really a beginner bike but more a intermediate.  the gs500f or ninja 500 are the best sport types.

ok wait a tic,  you joined in may 07 and your first post was

"has anyone actually riden these two bikes and can give
me an honest opinion and comparrison? i read a
comparisson from 2004 but i'm guessing things may have
changed a little since then. both bikes on paper seem
to be very similar. i've sat on both and they seem
fairly equal. the suzuki lets me sit a little more
upright. of course this is only a simulated riding
position. it may be a little different actually riding
the bike. both bikes are in the same price range as
well. any tips? hints? ideas? i've noticed a lot of
people seem biased towards whatever bike they own or
what they started on when they give advice to newbies
for first purchases. i have also heard that the gs has
fuel delivery problems in stock form and that the
front springs aren't very good in stock form on the gs
as well. i don't want it to cost me more to maintain the
bike than the bike itself costs. if you could give me
some maintence costs ideas too that would really be
helpful. thanks for your time.  "

so you still don't have a bike?  uh 1300 posts later?

Yeah that makes sense.  Us telling you to get this or that isn't going to work.  You are going to have to get it and live with the decision.  So just pick the one that makes your ass happy, but i am a big supporter of used cause instead of being upside down in money vs investment you could get something that in turn you could sell for close to what you got it for.  Also a bike that is a couple years old is going to be cheaper on insurance.  For example a new cbr600rr I would pay close to 3k a year to insure with full coverage.  My 05 gsxr 750 cost me 400 a year for the same coverages.  What a difference 3 years makes.

OK... yes.  Maintenance on a GS500 is not going to be nearly as much time out of your life as 1300 posts in a year.

Ural has a pretty slick '08 lineup that conveniently is almost mechanically identical to the '98, '88, '78 and '68 lineup.  But seriously those are freaking cool bikes and hella unique.

what on earth possesd you to send me to look at bikes with sidecars?

You can remove the damn sidecar if you don't want to use it.  Just a couple of bolts.

If you've ever watched a WWII movie, you've seen a Ural.   :icon_razz:  The Russians stole the BMW design in the '40s.  I'd just get a BMW, m'self...

spc

Ural is one of the only good things to come from communism.  All the brilliant design of a BMW and half the cost :thumb:
