Hi all,

Ive got a 2006 gs500e and my question is - does it affect the bike negatively if i drilled holes in the airbox. I live in australia so its nice and warm and ive got a k&n drop in filter, stock exhaust. It seems to suck more air in which seems great but i dont want to overdo it with the air into the carby. Can anyone ease my mind.

thanks
Dave

I wouldn't drill your airbox as it is not easy to undrill.   If you want to play around w/ airflow to your carbs, try the airflow restrictor ring that came with your K&N drop in, or switch back to your stock filter and drill it, and cover the drilled holes with some type of screen to keep out all those nasty green mambas and poisonous spiders and what have you over there.  I stuck my wife's panty hose over it.
Attack but have a back up plan

if you drill the air box you might as well take the air filter right out because the air and dirt will go through all the holes and not thought your air filter.

You might want to plug those holes then. Not only will you get dirt in the engine, but you will probably need to rejet due to the increased airflow.

Hi, guys,

Thanks for your comments. All had a valid point. Now I think i will plug the airbox holes, as i dont want dirt air getting in. BUT, i am getting the bike jetted next week so it would keep up with the added air intake with the holes in the airbox.  I think i might need to think this through.

Just get a lunchbox and forget the airbox all together...

Yes, I have done this - be aware that you will need to order it from overseas, K&N does not offer the lunchbox in Australia.  Not a big deal, but worth knowing.
