KBC Helmets? VR-1 or Racer-1

Hey all,

After trying on just about all the helmets I could get my hands on I am stuck between two KBC's; the VR-1 and the Racer-1.  Both fit the best out of anything I have tried on.

Anyone own either of these?  Any info / likes / dislikes with them?

Any thoughts on color?  I was thinking yellow or white for visibility?

Thanks

Andy

I tried the KBC's this week, and found they rotate forward and back on my head way too much. Maybe just me, but that will do a number on your nose if the face guard touches the ground.

Silver cars have a 50% lower accident rate than other colours. Not sure how that translates to bikes, but it is worth considering:

I've got a yellow Racer-1. It's an OK helmet for the price. I think it was about $240 w/tax from the Helmet Harbor. The venting seems to work in the desert heat. The padding along the forehead is a little skimpy. Next time I will pop for a more expensive lid.

I have a VR1 and like it well enough, it's about the same as my Shoei RF800 in terms of noise and venting but better on vision.
Much cheaper, too. The interior material is comfortable.
If you can't shake it off when it's undone and it doesn't pinch, it's a good helmet for the price.
I agree with the light colour comment..........visibility beats invisibility every time.....especially that one time when some phone hugging, non-fat bagel chomping, Starbux vente slurping vehicle pointer completely misses seeing  you. :guns:

I hav owned the VR-1 (dark silver) for 6 months now. I purchased mine at www.helmetshop.com for about $150 w/tax & S&H

IMO it has some nice features for the dollar:
1. removable "cool-max like" liner
2. removable ear pads
3. removable breathe guard
4. chin vent and air scoops
5. variable positioning visor
6. looks cool
7. removable breath guard
8. fleece helmet bag included
9. neck collar to block some of wind
10. D-ring + button fastener to keep strap out of way
11. tool-less visor removal
12. lightweight

Now for some of the negatives:
- chin vent is minimal
- air scoop vents are almost non-existent (although I still stayed relatively cool during the Texas heat)
- paint quality questionable --> chipping in certain spots
- neck collar not 100% --> air still enters through front
- helmet does fog from time to time

This link is was got me interested in the helmet and ultimately was the reason for my decision:

I can't comment on the Racer-1 because I don't know anything about it (except for it costs $75 more, is worn by 3x AMA Superbike Champion Matt Mladin, and has tabs for Racing tear-aways)

I own a VR-7, which is structurally almost identical to the VR-1.  I love it.  All the features of a $450 helmet, for not even half the price.  The only grip I have about it is that in cold weather, a FogCity insert is a must.

By the way, check this out: http://www.imotorcyclestore.com/html/Street/kbc/vr_1/graphics.html

If I were still in the market for a helmet, I'd pull the trigger on that deal in a heartbeat.
