Found a real nice one for $700, needs a good tune up, otherwise awesome shape, its  a 96, all he said was it had real low mile and sitting since '03. The 96 made 60hp and had an oil cooler. Not bad styling, have no idea if it has an awesome website like this one or if it has any aftermarket parts.

I've been looking into an 06 gs500 in TN with front end damage, this guy cant really keep his story straight and says it cant be registered / no title.  W/e the bike only has 1800 miles so for $1000 I say its an awesome parts bike.

Then in NY, almost the same story with Im guessing an 04 by the pics, guy doesnt really give straight answers or is very vague and aslo says it doenst have a title and says it has a seized engine, trying to get a price and miles out of him.

I asked both for pics of the vin#, we'll see what happens, I hate title issues, but hey maybe I can throw all those parts on an older frame? What is interchangeable between the years?

If the XJ turns over it sounds like a no brainer....the two GS's sound stolen! :o
Attack but have a back up plan

OK seca - I have owned one - I used to get my info on the maxim site.
Now if it has a starter clutch dead on it ... its a huge PITA but can be done with motor still in the frame.
If it has teeth broken on the starter idler gear ... forget it, you have to split it. Mine was this way as per previous guy ... however I checked its teeth as best as I could, and it looked OK, so I concluded it was starter clutch. I had swapped the motor already so it was moot.
I have a seca motor with 6K miles on it, all complete and dunno what exact problem (its one of the 2 above) and you can have it for 200.
Cool.

Of those bikes, I'd go with the Seca.  those two GS's sound stolen, or something.  Anytime a seller cant keep his story straight, or wont give straight answers, something is fishy, walk away.

These are the two responses I got from the guy in TN: (no response from NY yet)

when we filed bankruptcy, we stil owed money on the bike. we tried to give it back, and it was included in the bankruptcy, but the bank didn't want it back because it was wrecked. we don't have a title.  and our lawyer said we could sell it, but that we couldn't leave the vin number on it

i will sell the whole bike for $1000.00 but you can't get a title on it. we got it through a bankruptcy. because it was wrecked, they wouldn't take it back. so not sure how to do that. can't use the vin number off the bike

Here is his original post: I have a 2006 suzuki gs500f less than 2000 miles on the motor. wife wrecked it. it is going to cost too much for us to fix it up, rather part it out, all the front plastic is broken and the forks are bent. cycle max in murfreesboro said they could make it look and run like new for a little pver a $1000 dollars if you bring them the forks. not giving the bike away, so if you are looking for a handout, don't bother calling.. serious offers should call michael,  paid almost $8000.00 also have some accesories. 2 new helmets, gloves, motor cycle jacket.

Ok so what I got from this is that the Bank / Loan company has the title, in NY you can still sell a bike but cannot sign over the title without the lein being paid off but you can still register the bike under your name. So the bank doesnt want a damaged bike, ok understandable, Im not going to pay off the loan just to get a damn title. Why the lawyer would say sell it w/o the vin# is shady to me.

Ok so I have a new question, can I just get an '95 frame and title and swap over all the good parts?

I do like the seca, no email so I have to call the guy, and I'd have to have a family member go look at it or get it so I wouldnt be able to check on the starter condition myself.

MY friend has a 95 SecaII. It's a pretty cool bike...naked. Looks to much like it wants to be a cruiser to me, but it all depends on what you're into I guess. It sits alot more upright than my "89, and feels more comfortable too. If it were me, I'd be looking into that Seca more. Good luck either way.

that 06 GS is stolen. no question.  just look at the inconsistencies in the original sale posting, and the response you got, plus the "cant be sold with the vin still on it" part.  contact authorities and let them handle it.

Short and sweet - don't support thieves. It comes back to bite you.

Contact the authorities in the area(s) in question, and walk away.

There are plenty of non-stolen bikes out there, and lost titles can only be reissued to the owner of record, (that is fairly cheap and easy for a legitimate lost title). Mysterious title problems are generally not that mysterious, if you take off your gullibility hat.

Who would try to sell a damaged stolen bike? But then again maybe the theif damaged it himself, no new responses from either one of those guys yet. I dont support theives but I havent heard anyone in the area posting ads about a stolen bike.

FYI
it's a federal NO-NO to alter(or scratch out) the VIN
i don't think a lawyer would tell them that..... :icon_rolleyes:

I am in TN, and getting a Title here is a nightmare for newer bikes like this. If it's lost or he can't produce a Salvage one, walk away very fast. There are plenty of other GS's out there!
