And in 1984, you were a Lt. Commander in the United States Navy? Now.......................I know I am fixing to compare "apples to oranges" but I'm going to convert them to apples and apples so just hang on a bit for I am "trying to understand". A Lt. Commander in the "Navy" is the same rank as a "Major" in the Army. Is this not true? For a "Commander" in the Navy is the same rank as a Lt. Col. in the Army. So a Captain "in the Navy" is the same as a Colonel in the Army which is right below a Brigadier General.
So in a year you went from private in the Canadian military to Lt. Commander? Damn. Or maybe I misread it and you served a lot longer.

If i read correctly, 83 was when he went into us navy?, idk what rank he went in at, frankie did you go to annapolis? how did you get the commision? i know there are ways to do it. im jsut not sure ., but i assume, ( correct me if im wrong) that you were promoted several times, during career?

i was recruited as an ensign just like everyone else and went to the USN war college in Newport.  i did not get promoted to ltcdr until 2002.  so to spell it out it took me 18 years to go from ensign, thru college, lt jr grade,  lt, then finally lt - cdr.  why does do u guys care anyhow?  and quit 9/11 the board lol     while i was in the Canadian navy i was going to university.  i did well and kept my grades up.  but the Canadian officer corps was "elitist" and did not take ordinary seamen readily.  so i applied to USN War College and got accepted.  the USN is not just a better navy but they treat their sailors better and offer more career advancements.

frankie no need for the 9/11 references, gets OLD really fast. i was curious, ans to how one gots to the rank you got to. i figured you got in, low grade, and got promoed up.

 the 9/11 ref..i have been doing that for years.  yes i got in at the bottom of the barrel.   rev posted that i went from OS to Lt Cmd in one fell swoop.  that would be something to see lol.

i know man, it takes forever and a day to get that high up in the armed forces  , the 90/11 references, usually used by a certain group, ( which im at peace wiht now, and hopefully always) gets me, because i lost two relatives in that clusterfuck

So you were 3 grades from a Rear Admiral when you got out.

That is power. Could you have been in command of a large ship or sub?

to be honest...i burnt out..i just was no good anymore.  my attitude was getting poor, i no longer believed in what i was doing. how could i lead men when i was unsure of my own conscience.  this was around the time i was fighting the navy to be allowed to be politically active. i had a choice to make and i made it.  i am happy with my decision and would not change it.

Yama, do you know a Seal? I have an old Salt in my hometown that was in Seal Team 3 I think. He knows all the guys. They have reunions every so often and drink beer like there is not gonna be any tomorrow. They have a Seal Team website I think. They are a "tight unit"!!!! A lot of them are getting a bit older now but they communicate.
