Ok well i don't have great pics of the bike and its progress so far but its kinda a frankenstin of bolt on parts.  and this winter its time for her to become a real girl. (its a girl cause somthing about riding a boy bike is odd)

currently its spray paint white primer cause the barney purple doesn't work for a 22 year old colledge kid
Kat front end
GSX rear shock
bandit 400 rear wheel

that the basic idea

so there is a bunch of different colors on the bike and my dad lost a bet working on his motorcycle now he has to pay to get my tank plastics and fender painted (woot) and i there is some other maint things that i have been needing to be done

To do (pics will come as progress really gets started)

1.  get body painted (dad) its going to be Honda Element orange  AT THE PAINT SHOP
2.  sand prime and rustolum the frame (dark gray)  DONE ITS BLACK THO
3.  Oil leaks - valve cover, tach cable, cam chain ten DONE
4.  front fork leak  ALSO IN THE SHOP
5.  paint wheels (two differen colors) WAITING TO DECIDE
6.  figure out front brake problem fronts just don't stop well ORDERED NEW PADS WE WILL GO FROM THERE
7.  valve adj SKIPPED FOR THIS YEAR
8.  double check compression NOT GREAT NUMBERS BUT COULDN"T GET THE HEAD OFF
9.  re run some wires for cosmetics WILL BE DONE ON ASSEMBALY
10. header wrap MAYBE
11. R1 taillight WAITING ON TAX RETURN
12. Leds lights and such NEG
13. SV headlight maybe NEG
14. clean and paint motor black CLEANED NOT PAINTED
15. new chain don't know if its ever been replaced 25k miles now WE WILL SEE
16. might need new rod bearings NEVER GOT INSIDE THE MOTOR
17. twin undertail maybe http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=45569.0 NOPE
i'm sure there is more but its class time ill add some more tonight.

Cool!  Can't wait to see the progress.  I thought about painting my bike a similar orange color with black wheels, but stuck with the blue/gold combo.

wladziu

Orange is a slow color.  Paint it yellow!  Much faster.

Since you're switching to a Katana FE, how about sell me your front caliper.  I assume that's it's not part of the brake problem that you mention...
Previous owner stripped the dang bleed screw on mine.

Mdow

^ yup i got the old caliper here PMing and ya it was fine the new brakes don't stop as good as the old single caliper i figure if i add 6 more pistons it should stop better but it doesn't sooo working on that problem.

You should do red calipers and a polished lip on the rims.

High gloss black the spokes and inner rim, polish the hell out of the lip, maybe do a gold inner-ring on the front brake, red caliper, and repeat out back. Especially if the frame is gonna be dark gray... try to do a dark gray metallic. Same with swingarm... Might wanna consider gloss blacking out the front fork bottoms too. And the tripple tree clamps.

ya lower front fork tubs, rear swing arm, and tripples will be the same as the frame

wheels will be black calipers not sure yet def not red that would look funky with the orange front fender and tank maybe silver not sure

What master cylinder are you using?

I normally use GSXR m/c's and have 1 finger braking (with braided lines & EBC HH pads).
Common sense in not very common.

wladziu

Yeah, I remember you talking about that on another thread, Dgyver.  That's pretty interesting.  That's wouldn't happen to be on your parts bike, would it?

DIBS!!

Mdow, looks like we're part of the winter-rebuild club.  Very prestigious.  I nominate you treasurer.  You can buy me a new chain.

Those two alone on other bikes has done good things for the brake feel, for me.

And regular bleeds.  If your brakes aren't bled properly, they'll be soft no matter what you have.

...

Yes but not parting those out until I finish rebuilding my SV and figure out what front end setup to use on my 92 when it goes up for sale.

Well, you've got the start to an awesome project what with already having dual front discs, Yosh pipe and all...

I just love how you have the fire hydrant next to the fire wood...

Ironic? I don't know.  :dunno_white:

ok so compresion tested numbers were not as good as i was hoping.  about 130 and 135 it was soposed to be 155-145 when i bought it 2k miles ago

also went to check valves one exhaust seems to be about right couldn't check the other cause i can't turn the motor over.  if i try and turn the rear wheel in 1st gear i can lift the bike up. if i bear hug the rear wheel and try and turn it i almost twist it off its center stand. WTF is wrong. i pulled the spark plugs out i just can't seem to compress the valves. the vid i watched made it seem pretty easy to compress them.

but i when ahead and pulled the motor. which is also a pain in the ass.  i heard the easy way was to lay it on a some box springs and then just lift the motor out the side. NO!! the bolts have to slide out the other side and the mother has to so some magic turn and twist to clear the frame. took about 2 hours after removing all the bolts to get that POS out.

wasn't a good start of a winter project

and i failed to remeber to bring a camera
