I hope all is well. I haven't posted for a while been busy with work and school. Friday night I went to school and when I got back to my apartment, My garage door was broken open and my bike gone. I had a disk lock on the front disk and the bars locked to the side. The bike was on a battery charger and covered. The cover was on the floor and the charger unplugged, those were the only things left, the cover and the charger. I called the police right away and didn't touch a thing, they came and made a report, I then called my insurance company and made a claim, awaiting an adjuster to give me a call now. The police said that people are losing one to two bikes a day here (Ventura) to thieves. I thought I was doing everything I could, locked garage, disk lock, key secure in the apartment, and covered. But it was just not enough. I loved my bike and took such good care of it. After a failed relationship I found relief in my Sunday rides and always looked forward to the solitude of the highway. The funny thing is it was just a little GS500, not worth stealing, but this little 500 was a good friend. I learned so much working on it. The value was never in the bike, the value was the joy it brought me. Got up this morning and looked at me helmet and gloves all I could say is Damn...Well everyone take care of yourselves and protect your rides. Thanks for everyone help when I had questions. Bye for now.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. It sounds like you took all reasonable measures to protect the bike.

I wish all bike thieves ill.   they stole your best friend basically.  if someone took mine, for a man with a strong heart, I'd still break down and cry, then probably go vigilante and not give a damn about the repercussions of my actions.

sorry to hear your bike was taken from you.  The good side is you have insurance to cover this sort of thing.  now drill a BIG hole in the concrete and install a 1/2" thick steel eye bolt into the concrete half recessed in it, and pour concrete around it, to chain the bike to by the frame so they cant take the next one.

I wish you strength and comfort.

I'm really sorry for your loss!
I think it's partially causes by very weak economy  >:(
Yesterday I went with my wife and sister to home depot to do some christmas shopping,
when we came back to the car after 20 minutes the trunk in our car was opened!!
fortunately nothing was stolen because we only had wrapping paper and light bulbs there...
it's unbelievable though, how much you hear about thieves these days.

That's terrible news! I hope the insurance company gives you enough money to get another bike.

loki7714

Just outta curiosity how much they giving you for the bike?
That really sucks, glad i live in Louisianna where these things are fairly rare.
At least it happened in winter you should be able to find a bike for next to nothing      can't wait to see what you find

That sucks. I feel lucky mine has not walked away. I park in a gated three story underground parking deck beneath my building. It requires RFID tags for both entry and exit, yet bikes are constantly being stolen from it. Im pretty sure i own the cheapest bike in the building, but i wouldn't be surprised if one day its gone.

GSrookie500

I never thought of theives stealing a GS500. I didn't think are bikes were the ones getting stolen. :dunno_white:

I guess I better start finding ways to not get my bike stolen. I'm in the San Gabriel Valley area in Cali, but drive EVERYWHERE.
Free '97 GS500 passed down from older brother. Installed Yoshimura slip-on muffler, K&N drop-in, Katana shock, Metzler Z6 tires, more to come.

man, that sucks.   i know what you mean about the bike being a friend.  I LOVE my "me" time on my bike.

yeah...i'm sure they were pro bike thieves.  they may or may not have known about your precautions.  My guess is they knew a bike was there, and brought enough people to lift it up, toss it in a trailor and be gone.

good luck with the police and the adjuster.

Id hate to lose my buddy.  I got mine while my relationship was failing.  And It has done the same great service for me that yours has for you.  Im sorry to hear for your lose.  Id lose my mind.  Its my only escape in this lonely world. :embarassed:

If these jerks are ever caught what do they face anyway. A slap on the wrist and probation or if they do go to jail they get the best schooling on how to do it better next time. I'd just ask the judge to give me five minutes with him, me and a Loiusville slugger. Betcha he wouldn't do it again 'cause he wouldn't be able to walk!

I'm very vengeful right now. On November 20 I was taken to the hospital at 2100 for health issues by 0800 the next morning got a call from KPD informing me that someone had cut a four foot by three foot hole in the top of my convertible and stole the stereo system everything! It is a gated community as well as supposedly having an off duty sheriff's deputy there ( I wanna know what the hell he was doing when the car alarm went off :2guns:). So, one of my lovely neighbors must have seen me leave in the ambulance (makes me sick to my stomach knowing how people prey on the weak) and did their thing.

So, now I gotta ride my bike everyday until I can get the car fixed! Which sucks because I'm still pretty sick and shouldn't be riding with surgery scheduled for Thursday.

You're support is great, when I find out about what the insurance company will offer, I will be sure to let everyone know. I have AAA with a 500 dollar deductable. I have to say right now that two things I have learned, is that no matter how much you try to protect your bike enough is never enough and two, it is worth having good insurance, CA is a hot bed of motorcycle theft I am sure florida is too. So becareful. I wish everyone a Happy Holiday. :thumb:
