Ok ok- I posted this message last March.... and Christaan replied now...December 27 or 28th (9 months later).... as most of you know... I bought a GS back in May... so... my post on this is kinda obsolete at this point... I think Christaan just needed info a Bandit and hooked on to this post....just to clarify... I'm not buying a bandit!  :dunno:

Next one will be a GSXR-600 I hope!!!  :thumb:

I know this post is dead but i thought i'd put my 2 cents in.  I raced both  a gs(starter) and a bandit the next year.  although I liked the feel of the gs (slimmer) the bandit was a better performer on the track.  I had a V&H full exhaust with a custom jet kit and and air box mod. that bike would easily pull the wheel off the ground. something  I could never do on the gs.  only thing I didn't like on the bandit was the mid pipe hit the ground in hard right turns.
IMO I like the looks of a bandit but if the GS came with the same amount of power then it MIGHT be a different story.
and also. when think the bandit doesn't have enough power you can put a gsxr 750 motor in it like i did  :)
I've seen them as low as 900 on ebay too. I'm just looking for one close to me.

That begs the question... but why... A GSXR 750 is bound to be lighter, stiffer, and have better running gear. You are talking about the 88-92 750 isn't it. Actually 88-95 would be the same. The Bandit 4's steel frame is bound to be heavier than the 750's aluminum one.
Cool.

I've heard of a 250 Bandit.  Does that have 4 cylinders also?
2002 GS500 (sold)
2003 EX500
2004 YZF600R

Yes the 250 Bandit is a 4-cyclinder baby Bandit for countries with tiered licensing programs.  There are 250cc 4 cylinder forms of most popular Japanese sportbikes including Suzuki GSXR 250, Kawasaki ZX-2 (different from US-sold Ninja/EX 250), Yamaha FZR 250 and Honda CBR 250, which is the bike shown in my avatar.

lets see.....118 HP in a 400 frame.  how how you like to get killed bike that your not sure what it is. actually the bandit is still lighter then a 750. not by that  much i think it was still like 15 lbs.
it's just something different.  can't/couldn't keep the thing on the ground. I used a 98 carb'd motor. I used a 96-99 exhaust on it. not a perfect fit but its workable.

the oil cooled motors are a terrible choice. TOO wide. the 96+ motors are still too wide some mods have to be done.  including the upper mounts.

i think i may get the bandit.  I like the GS but the Bandit is selling cheaper and side by side I think the Bandit looks better.  Sometimes I like the thick blocky frame around the engine on the GS, and sometimes it bothers me.  I don't have that problem on the bandit, it is cleaner.

If you like the Bandit better, go for it. But don't do it for "economical" reasons. Any money you save on the initial purchase will be plundered later on - every time you have it serviced or repaired.

For the record, my buddy has a B4 and I LOVE it. But I like working on my simple little GS so much more.

OK so you put a 98 GSXR 750 motor in the B4... OK again I have to ask... why... and the 15 lb weight difference is mainly the running gear... front suspension, wheel, discs, rear wheel etc... alone would weigh 15 lbs more on the GSXR than the B4. You know... to handle more power you need that stronger albeit heavier stuff...
