Excuse me they are uspS stickers my friend... And it's muriatic acid and i know my safety precautions. Still got my sheet from chemistry.

I am glad that you learned so much in your chemistry class.  Thus you are aware of the VAST DIFFERENCES between muriatic and hydrochloric acid.  WIshing you the best of success!

Not trying to bust anyone's balls.

Muriatic isn't so bad on the skin, just kinda tingly for a while with all the denaturing of the unsaturated phospholipids of your skin cells.  I think of it as exfoliation.  If you drink it (which you're not gonna do), it'll do a number on your vocal cords and larynx.  Rats, strangely enough, would rather drink HCl than water...  We use it to help keep them gnotobiotic.

It's the fumes you should worry about.  Mustard gas isn't very enjoyable.  Breathing it has the same effect on your throat as gargling the wet stuff, with the added bonus of getting into your lungs.  Worse than drinking it.
You're leaving behind metal salts in the tank, mainly ferrous chloride (aqueous) which mostly gets washed away.  It's just as corrosive to the tank as sea water, and I've been wondering how much is left in the surface pores.  And, there are usually trace amounts of sulfuric acid in there, as well, which corrodes the steel further.

Oh, and the eyes! But, you can just wash them with water.   :icon_rolleyes:  Safety glasses won't keep the gas off your eyes, either.  Once it hits your eyes, it turns back into acid.  Rinsing with water dilutes it, but doesn't stop it from reacting.

With the metal salts and trace sulfuric, you're providing a cause of the flash rust.  Good luck keeping it away.
HCl de-rusting works quickly, but it sets up the steel to rust even faster.
Talk to Buddha about POR-15 coating.

I'm very glad that it seems you didn't hurt yourself, but worried that someone will in the future.
