Howdy,  I've been a GS owner for almost a year now,  but the squid in me is starting to want more power. (plus my bike was trashed atleast 2 times before I bought it)  I bought the GS to get used to riding in a more agressive sporty position than my old vulcan.  Plus I love streetfighters.

For my next bike im sorta wanting to go kawasaki again.  The closest to GS they have would be a ER-06 but its not the hottest looking bike on the market.  That headlight is uhhh...  Plus its still to new for me to buy.
Im also looking at the 92-93 Zephyr 1100.
Basicly im just looking for suggestions.  I may end up with a SV650.  Even though its still suzuki, its a nice bike.  or a Honda 919... idk...  Im confused.  Basicly what i want is good midrange.  Good comfort, and good miles per tank.  Aircooled or liquid doesnt matter.  But I also perfer the bike not to sound like a chainsaw like my GS.

idk... i love you guys to much, i probably wont sell my bike.

no really, ring up some kawi forums that aren't over run with idiots and you'll see the sv -is- a better bike than the er-6.

it has your wishes in riding comfort, miles per tank, and the radiator will keep you blood (oil ? ;) ) cool on warm days. as far as asthetics of one headlight or another being a deciding factor - those things change out easy. besides NO ONE CARES when you're riding down the road.... and you can only see it when it's parked.

personally, i pull up, drop the sidestand, lock the ignition, cover, and walk away. haven't had one of those ' oh baby youre sooooo pretty ' moments in a long time ;)

919's are overpriced.  I love V-Twins with my heart and soul but I'm getting tired of hearing SV650 and much more tired of seeing them.  I was the only person within 100 miles to have a TL and LOVED it that way.

EX500's are great...I'll own another some day.  I've ridden a few 650 Ninjas and the Versys and both are good...I LOVE the Versys so if you want a Kawasaki check that one out.  If you're looking for more meat then hit a ZRX.  If you want something that's just cool, find a W650.

Speed triple/Street Triple. A bit pricey but that's going to be my next bike. That or a 750, although it sounds like you don't want something that sporty.

hotrodstu77

the 919 is a nice bike my buddy has one and loves it compared to my other buddies sv1000 for compfort and for other reasons. i love the street triple its a sweet machine, if i were to buy new i would look at either a street triple or an aprilia 750 shiver. both nice naked bikes and very strong when you need some passing power.

ER/Ninja 650 anyday. I dont like the SV650, yea very common and its V twin is another  >:( ...
TL1000 or SV1000 - meeee ... OK v twin but atleast they are 1000 not 650.
Parallel twins are cool, but I like the aluminum frame, on steel frames, the idiots put shitty steel and paint it with water color and dont even care about cleaning up weld spray before painting them. Worthless and inexcusable IMHO. That ninja 650 has a 100 spots it collects dirt and water and rusts ... pityful. In the real world we dont like that crap and we dont need to put up with that.
And very importantly, headlights are round, failing which square/rectangle is a distant second. These Idiotic picasso shaped crap just annoys us. Morons ... round or close enough ... like the new monster is acceptable, so is square, rectangle, or dual round, it even 3 round, the Idiotic potato shaped junk ... I wanna throw a rock into it.
Cool.

There are a lot of good reasons so many SV's are on the road. Suzuki got it right (mostly) and offered it at a reasonable price. 20 extra ponies at the wheel is quite noticable. Engine longevity is excellent. Unless you are a significantly aggressive rider and/or over 180#, the only mod necessary is stiffer fork springs (sound familiar?). The advantage of buying a popular model is the availability of used machines. It's fairly easy to find a low mileage, adult owned 2nd gen (2003+) SV for under $4500. Of course, I may be a little biased. :icon_mrgreen:

no one's bashing the SV, gearman...but it's lost its appeal to a lot of people because it became the new GSXR.

Its a hard choice, I will take the 650 ninja over the SV650 but the reasons I mentioned are serious reasons to stay away from it.
BTW the ninja 650 headlight - no complaints, its got fairing and those lights look great in that fairing. The naked bike lights are yuck. So only the frame is BS.

This is prolly very very right. The SV650 and the 1000 are the most proven of anythign on the road (other than the GS) they been around 10+ years. Essentially very much problem free.

WOW REALLY? lmao what im i doing wrong lmao. ive been racing motocross for a few years, and my GS500 is my first street bike. i road with my buddy and he has an FZ1 and he made me feel like i was riding a mini bike lol. my GS is brand new, only has 975 miles on it, maybe thats why. but it seems to me like it doesnt have much guts. i can imagine it would out run a CBR 600 unless you raced someone that was just learing how to drive a motorcycle, or they are afraid of their bike.

Not taken as such. Just explaining why there are a lot of SV's on the road. They are getting a little dated in the styling dept and Suzuki refuses to deal with the suspension issues. The OP might also consider the Kaw Z750. I came very close to pulling the trigger on one before I bought the SV. I'm just not that crazy with the way I4's make their power...even though they make lots of it.

sub 1000 miles huh>?

i bet it's still stock...

the road i was on are all rated like 20/25 in the turns the straights are MAYBE 45's

i've modded my bike a bike and went to a 15T front...

so at lower speeds i keep up not a problem!

HPI_Freak

yea, my bike is completely stock. im still making payments on it, so its going to stay that way for a while lol. but my friends Yamaha FZ1 wheelies every time you touch the throttle. on my bike, ony way to do a wheelie is to pop the clutch. it doesnt have enough to bring up the front end with its own power. but again, i still dont know if that is just because the motor is still setteling and its not at 100% power yet.

whats with all this jetting that im hearing about? is there a way to get a high flow air filter / performance exhaust, and then re-jet it and make more power?

nightrider

I bought a 1st gen SV and its pretty good. Fast, inexpensive, good-looking, reliable. Although if you can, put a steering damper on it just in case.
