Just got my apendix out. What a fun way to start the new year.

So I ended up needing an emergency apendectimy yesterday morning at 7:30am (sunday). I basically spent all of my Friday night puking every 45 mins to an hour on the dot and then having this terrible stabbing pain in the stomach.

No sleep at all. Then, at around 11am on Saturday morning the puking stopped and my boss made me come into work for 3 hours. No way I could opt out because everyone else was on vacation.... ghey. So, I had to have my father drive me in and pick me up.

So around 11pm saturday night I'm doubled over in pain with this stabbing sensation in my lower right side of my stomach. Time to go to the ER.

Sure enough, after some bloodwork, cat scan, and 2grams of morphine... they told me my apendix was on the verge of bursting.

Then, come sunday morning after the surgery the doctor said that it actually did tear a litle before he could get it all out... I'm in such pain right now. They put me on Perks, but they're a low dosage every 4 hours.

SUCK. So, I just thought I'd share with you guys... lol. At least I get a week off work. *sigh*

Here's wishing you a speedy recovery, Dan.  An ruptured appendix is nothing to sneeze at.  If it actually started to tear as the doc said, the clock was definitely ticking on you, young man.  Glad they caught it in time.

Look on the bright side: it's the dead of winter.  If it had to happen, now's the time.  It's not like you're missing out on prime riding season, right?

FYI: Watch that percocet, even at low dosage.  That's definitely not something you want to develop a taste for.

Danny500

Thanks a lot. I'm actually not taking the percs as often or as much as directed just for that reason.

And yeah, if this was summertime, i'd be pretty pissed, lol.

Augh! I had this done back in June! Hang in there the best you can... it will get better. Walk multiple times every day if you're not. It sucks to do (or at least did with me), but you've absolutely got to get up and walk. Get off the percocet as quickly as you can handle, too; it will cause constipation among the host of other effects. I'm obviously not saying don't take it if you need it, but know its going to gum you up.

Best wishes for a quick recovery. I was down for way too long with mine, but I was bleeding internally from the surgery. With just a touch of luck, you should be on your feet feeling good in a week or so. Keep us updated!

(Also, be careful on your bike after you've recovered. I wrecked about 6 weeks after surgery, and had I damaged the surgery side rather than my good side, I'm not really sure what would have happened to me, but I can pretty much guarantee it wouldn't have been good!)

Well, i've been forcing myself to getup every day. It sucks to lie down and get up from a horizontal position, so i try to sit as much as I can which also keeps the bowels moving. Today I actually feel well enough to walk around a bit. I actually cut my dosage from 2 percs every 4 hours to 1 every 4-5 depending on what I can handle. It's a pretty terrible feeling... but at least I can remove the bandages and take a shower today, which I really really need. lol.

Dan, that is awesome that you're getting up and around! My case was pretty atypical, but I could NOT get up on my own for 5 or 6 days, couldn't make food, couldn't walk without help every few steps, etc. And it's not that I'm out of shape or lazy (I'm a competitive triathlete, and this happened right before my first race of the year), but the internal bleeding was wreaking havoc on my system. Had my ex not been ready and willing to care for me 24/7, I would have been in the hospital for a week rather than a couple days.

You're going to be great in no time! Definitely keep us posted on your progress!

Danny500

Wow Train, that's pretty intense. I just took my bandages off today and hopped in the shower unassisted and i feel almost 100 % better just having cleaned up from the hospital etc. Right now I just feel weak, and sharp pain when I try to lie down or get up from a horizontal. I almost want to try stairs but I think i'll just keep on the flats for a big longer. I'm in no rush.

Well, i've been taking a couple days off because Friday I had to go back into the ER. The wound itself was infected... they did another cat scan and luckily there was nothing wrong internally, but they ended up just cleaning out the incision and leaving me with open drainage... kinda sucky but it feels a ton better and I actually feel much better.

With the infection I was getting sweats all the time and a lot of pain and redness in the area of the incision.

But hopefully I'm out of the woods now.

Nice. Strong work on getting back to the E.R. when things weren't going right. Apparently those infections can turn pretty ugly, so that's good news that they took care of it and you're back on the mend. Couple more days and you'll be back rocking!  :thumb:

Mine also started it out on a sour note! On the 31st wasn't feeling well thank God the home health nurse came out for port maintainance. As she came out I was quite confused apparently, she called 911. We found out that my Power Port which had been put in on Dec 11th had clotted off so I had to have surgery to have it replaced. My confusion was coming from a combination of bronchitis, colitis (from Chron's disease), and my adrenal glands were failing. So, yeah, nine days in the hospital and a second surgery on my shoulder within four weeks.

I was out Friday riding the bike on Saturday! Can't keep me down. Still got steri strips on the shoulder and the port really pokes out so I def. gotta be careful!

Watch for the infection and put Vitamin E on the incision once you can wash it. Will help with scarring. Might not be a problem for the guys but I'm a girl and we are so self-conscious!

Feel better.

Toogoofy, I thought you were a dude!
You're a trooper to be riding like that.

Have you been checked for Addison's, yet?  Crohn's and Addison's are both autoimmune disorders, and colitis gets lumped into Crohn's.  Since your adrenals are failing, though.... Addisons.  Just saying.
Also, get your dentist to check and treat for periodontitis.  It's a common side effect.  Don't want your teeth falling out...
(Use to want to be a dentist.  Don't ask...)
