Go to MEPS and find out... If you live far from one like I did when I enlisted you get to stay overnight and get free food!  :D

So, go for the hell of it if anything... you'll never know unless you go. I had to get a waiver because I had eye surgery when I was 4  :cookoo: I had 20/20 vision and passed all the eye test but I was still rejected.. I had a letter written to my recruiting branch from my state rep and saw a Navy flight surgeon that gave his OK and BOOM... Waiver.. off to boot camp I went  :thumb:

That's the way it should be. If you want to serve you should be able to, because there are so many people who a physically able who won't.
If i join again, my time in IRR still counts towards time in service and retirement, yes?

frankieG

you cannot have people whom are not fit enrolled.   there are standards for a reason.

that is considered not fit...thats the way it is.  there are standards to be met which are not only for your safety but that of your fellow soldier, sailor or airmen

nobody is perfect. my point is they should have options available for those who wish to serve. i've not ever been turned down from any other type of employment because of my hearing.

yeah, I am with you Jserio I wanted badly to serve my country. Four years of ROTC and such was the adminstration officer. I even scored a 93 on the ASVAB scoring off the charts in science and coding. I wanted to go medical and was told I could have whatever I wanted. Decided to wait a little bit part of me is still kicking myself for doing that the other part says I may of had SCA with the boot camp. Don't know why I couldn't have served in a veterns hospital or similar here in the states or at a base?

true, there are contractor jobs that don't require you to see combat.

I guess where I gt a little miffed about it is you can be dumb as a rock and be a grunt or an ex-gang member and get in even some have with felonies. Why is this?

Also, why is the rest of the country bound by the ADA and the military not? If I can do the job it shouldn't matter!

I'm looking at the military as a possible career as well... I took the asvab and made a 94 the first time so could do anything i want... Even go in as an officer if i join Rotc in college. Good idea?

True, one of the guys in my old platoon had an asvab score of 23. Dude was an incompetent moron, i would have rather had justin there with his hearing loss than that guy. that and justin wouldn't have had to worry about hearing loss from the mortars now would he  :tongue2:

jserio

i know right? oh well. i suppose should the country ever "ask" me to serve i've got this to throw back in their faces. lol.   :2guns:
