Wow, hey guys! havent been here in awhile.. i have a question about my brother's fourwheeler.. its a newer Yamaha Blaster.. i believe 2000..

If anyone has one, awesome.. but if anyone could at least point me to a good forum for this beast, it would be awesome-er..... :mrgreen:

So he got a jetkit for christmas.. and of course i wanted to put it in for him.. :cheers:

Well, in my haste i accidentally pulled two wires from their socket.. I know what your thinking.. wires in the carb? Yeah, apparently it has a throttle return sensor... no pilot?? i dunno.. anyways thast what it is, so i need to hook it back up somehow.. maybe solder it back into the plug.. I just dont know which wire is which..

I fired it up but it wont idle at all... so i know thats a necessary part.. also, i cant figure out a way to take this part out of the carb body.. its really odd. (very poor engineering on this carb IMO).. our carbs are CAKE compared to this one..  :nana:

Define wont idle.  Can you hold it at a high RPM?  I am thinking it might be an electronic choke.  I searched the web but coulden't find anything helpful. but I did find www.bumperdumper.com .

Probably a Throttle Position Sensor. It should be able to idle without it which indicates you did something else wrong too.

Perhaps discretion is the better part of valor in this case as you should let someone who knows what they are doing have a go at it?

Ahem... ok.. umm lemme try again :mrgreen:

It is the THROTTLE RETURN SENSOR.

I called a well-known local mechanic who works on these all the time.. (but he charges to do so, and my bro is 15, so i did it for free)..

Anyways, i asked the mechanic about it, and he said "That's the throttle return sensor, Some snowmobiles have them too. It may not idle without it, since it indicates when the throttle has "returned."

Guys, its a little plastic thing, with two wires (the CHOKE is a simple pull knob job, like any other two stroke).. its got a huge spring around it.. and when you turn the large screw, it will either push or pull the entire unit moving it closer or farther to the throttle arm. When you let off the gas, the throttle arm hits this little plastic button and holds it shut. Its OBVIOUS. I just dont see any feasible way to get it out, since there is no other screws on it.. and simply unscrewing it will result in a broken peice of plastic as it moves too far back and severes itself on metal carb body.

Anyhow, if anyone has one... or knows of a good forum.. that would be awesome..

AND, i know he should have the manual... but hes 15!! :dunno:

Besides, from what i can see, there is no pilot screw to control idle.. there is an air screw though..(set 2 turns out asd indicated by dyno jet.)

With two leads the switch isn't doing anything very complex and shouldn't have a polarity. I would fire the thing up and cross the two wires and see if it idles (think side stand switch on a GS). If it does, then just pick a lead and solder them on. If it doesn't, then you more than likely have a different problem.

Then again I am not the one would would have to replace shorted out electronics. Might want to run it by the mechanic friend before doing it.  :cheers:

I agree with Wrencher.  Try what he says, if that doesn't work, try just plugging the two leads into the sensor (it doesn't matter which lead goes to which terminal) & try it again.  If that doesn't work switch the two leads around & try them on the other way.  I agree that the sensor is highly unlikely to have a polarity, so just hooking it up either of the two possible ways should work, but if it doesn't work the first way just turn it around.  I'm sure you can't hurt it.

BTW, welcome back!!  Like Cris says, we were starting to worry about ya!!  :thumb:

Alright.. heres an update.. anyone who wants a challenge.. figure this one out..

OK, so i fixed the T.O.R.S problem.. i spliced the wires together, after doing some research, and it starts and idles..

Now... the weird thing.. remember im jetting it.. and there is no pilot jet changes according to both dynojet and others who have done this...

I start it up... idles fine with full choke..

Revs rise slightly after a few secs.. so i push choke in a bit.. revs RISE FARTHER!! :dunno:  

So i completely shut off choke.. (its ice cold btw) and the revs CLIMB!! To an unbearable rpm.. before i shut it off.

So, im thinking lean..  but i dont know how to fix it.. there is only one adjustment.. an air screw. I had it all the way in, with no fix. So im thinking maybe some kind of air leak...

Its been buggin me.. so i figure id mention.. i Bent the choke lever slightly... would this cause a bad seal when the choke is closed? (pushed in)...
