Gilera Dna 70cc Problems..

This is my second bike,  a 2004 Gilera Dna ,it has run like a dream since i got it 2 years ago , the other day i was driving home  in the heavy rain and it just dyed on me , and refused to start , i managed to get it home to have a look , i noticed the spark wasnt to good , i replaced the plug , started up just fine , then it died , it will start but it will no idle for more than 10 seconds or so

Its getting petrol to the Cylinder , so im taking it it could be the HT leads , or the CDi , any thoughts?

it was raining very very heavy that day

Its a Moped that looks like a Motorbike . Has a Wider rear tyre the the Suzuki Gs500 .. 140 compaired to 130 . and a wider front tyre than a Suzuki Hayabusa well mine does , i have a 140 on the front to0 * stock is 120 , but i pushed the boat out  , its automatic , its a stock 50cc , with bigger carb and Head kit to make 70cc .  can go 60 miles a hour *indicated* on a flat bit of road ,  Stock 100mpg ish , as limited to 30 mph
i fill mine up with 6 litres every 5 weeks or so, 2 miles to work and back 6 days a week , and general riding around . so maybe 70-80 mpg

Well its a 2 stroke . but isnt running at the moment , hence the help :P haha

Lol I know whats going on.

I used to have a TVS Champ 60cc bike in India that did that in the heavy rain.

Question is it a 2stroke???? (never mind its a two stroke - I am 100% sure now that its water in your carbs/intake)

First check the carbs.. water gets in there and f%$ks it up (especially if the intake is behind the front wheel somewhere). You need to dry out the carbs. Clean out the plugs. Dry out the cylinders. If its a 4stroke, check the oil with water.

What happens is that in heavy rain it sucks in water.. and you basically kill the engine, it doesnt hydrolock but it wont start.

You should have carbon crud all over your intake.. give it a good clean and dry it out.
'01 GS500. Mods: Katana Shock, Progessive Springs, BobB's V&H  Advancer Clone, JeffD's LED tail lights & LED licence plate bolt running lights, flanders superbike bars, magnet under the bike. Recent mods: Rejet with 20/62.5/145, 3 shims on needle, K&N Lunch box.

Does it have an auto cut-out if the 2st oil gets low??.

AFAIK small displacement 2-stroke bikes like these don't come with a cutoff system if oil is low, you just get a red light on your dashboard that means, "hey mate put some oil in here ASAP", but no auto-cutoff, I had quite a few 50 cc's (the principle is the same) and it's always been like that.

No it doesnt have the auto cut off , that would be sweet , when i bought it off the kid , i had almost no oil in it , i started it for like 2 seconds,  and cut it off , so it started with no problem ,

its a awesome little thing , not had a problem with it , i no that they say there really really unreliable , but i havent had any problem ,  thanks for the good luck!

Thanks guys , i stripped the carb , and cleaned it all out , then bought some new Oil , fresh Petrol . started first time , rus as strong as ever .

Update: Rode it half a mile or so , and it did the exact same thing and wouldnt start again , im starting to think its electrical

Did you check after replacing the plug that the spark was strong?

Yep, lovely and blue ., i hadnt replaced the plug since i got it , so i thought it needed it anyways , a lovely tan colour, it has been rejetted spot on

Sounds electrical to me, something breaking down or going O/C as it warms up. It might be a known issue, try the TwistnGo ir Gilera owners forum for advice.
